Signs and (unim)portents

For several weeks, there was a face in my basement.

Whenever I turned on the basement light, this would appear at the foot of the stairs:

A cute take on the topic. I'll bet you could rearrange what down cellar and create a new face. He looked kind of at home there, to me. :)

My first attempts to restore the face were too distorted, so now it's a "blank slate." I may make another attempt later.

This story creeped me the hell out. To be clear, I mean that in the good way. Teach me how to write like this, please.

Thanks! I'm not good at teaching, but try to show by example. This was mainly an exercise in observing and remembering (and photography).

I have cases of deja vu and even dreams of things that happen before they do. It's always pretty weird. Described nicely!

Thanks! It's odd when you get in touch with the "more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in your philosophies" -- I hope they're more useful to you. =)

I liked the inclusion of the picture, with creepy zombie-George-Washington (or whoever) wating there. I'll admit, I probably wouldn't want to step on any part of his actual face either. The idea of it gives off bad 'monster in the closet' vibes.

And besides, I've long had this sense that the fact that super-awesome things don't happen to me is balanced out by super-awful things not happening. So I'll take my mediocrity in stride.
I liked this idea! No extreme good OR bad.

Think of it not as mediocrity but as untouched Fate... :)

Knew this wouldn't work without the photo. I somehow never really saw him as creepy (fortunately). Since I live in a reputedly haunted neighborhood and have been in that house about five years without incident, it's easy to see any manifestation as benevolent or neutral -- if it didn't like us, we'd have had a hint by now. Still, one does watch one's step!

I had to work to see him. He's pretty awesome.

I've heard the deja vu thing rationally explained as a possible intra-brain mis-dump of chemicals usually associated with strong memories. I guess this is what we get for having CPUs based on random juices.

The mis-fire theory works except how can you remember a place you've never been?
I've heard one theory that it's the residue of time-travelers or some other quantum event making similar timelines blur, so that we remember what happened in the other timeline by mistake.
