Thanks! I came up with the concept of Oubliette, St. Jude's Parish, Louisiana, years ago as a place to put my more Gothic and Lovecraftian stories -- finally got around to writing one.
Thanks, glad I managed to surprise. I'm thinking Terry lives to chicken out another day. Brian may have met his end, though -- at least in his present mortal form...
The first thing this topic made me think of was when my first husband and I were driving through Mississippi and came upon a road just covered with small turtles. I was trying to dodge them, but I'm almost certain I hit some of them. There wasn't much more to the story, though, which is why I didn't write about it.
For a few years I lived in southeastern Arkansas, which is ecologically just a step away from the Mississippi Delta and the Louisiana bayous (local streams were labeled "bayou" instead of "creek"). And one of the strongest memories I have is of "turtle time," when it's been rainy and the ditches and low places are full of water, and all the turtles are sunning themselves on any fallen log that's above the waterline -- so you notice them *everywhere.* Those memories were the first thing I thought of when coming up with this entry.
