Junior weather watcher

Looking back on it, it was one of the oddest things I've ever done.

Monday: Fair / cumulus / winds 4-7 mph

I must have been about 10 or 11. Among the little nature books I had -- guides to birds or snakes or rodents or trees of North America that I looked through from cover to cover as though I was ordering from Nature's catalogs -- there was one on ( Read more... )

I think it's a pretty neat thing to start doing as a kid, even if it was only a passing interest. My extra-curricular activities tended to focus more on arts than science.

Interestingly, I always got better grades in science type classes rather than the arts.

In grade school, when science was more general and tangible, like basic biology, and less mathy like physics, I tested on a high school or college level in it. I also had/have my artsy side, playing piano from the age of six.

I really enjoyed this. It just sounds like a spring/summer passing fancy then school and other routines take over.

The clouds and some geographical highlights are all I retain from the entire university course I took - just another arts student taking her mandatory science requirement - rocks with jocks? ;-}

Isn't it funny what the mind will retain?

Hee! I think this is a place where it is good to use meta. Isn't it funny to recall the things that you loved as a child? I get this way a lot when I remember how obsessed I was with dinosaurs, but now I have to look up which is which.
