I wouldn't recommend you *sew* 6 petticoats to go under it. I'd recommend you *buy* multiple petticoats; or one bridal crinoline, then make one petticoat to go over it. If you use nylon net you can make the over petti as full as you want it. What I do is buy the nylon net from JoAnn's (if you have a coupon or sale you can get it for cheap). It's essentially double folded fabric, so sew along the second fold with a large gathering stitch. I like using buttonhole or upholstery thread in the bobbin because you don't have to worry about thread breaking. If you use a different color you'll be able to see what to pull better, but you'll want to pick it all out later so it's a tradeoff. Make a petticoat lining and mark the depth of the net to mark your first layer. Measure around this level and cut a piece of ribbon or tape that long. Then gather the net onto the ribbon or tape, trying to get equal gathers. Hand-tack the tape onto the petti and cut the fold that's still left in the bottom. Fluff and see if it's as full as you want

Thanks for such a thorough reply. :) Maybe I'll see how one petti looks over my wedding crinonine. The petticoats I was looking at didnt have any netting which is why I thought I'd need so many. It was just fabric ruffles really.
