Summary: Sungmin was always hidden in the crowd.
Kyuhyun watched throughout the years he spent with Sungmin as bandmates. But he seemed to notice something. Sungmin never stood himself out on most shows. He never cared if his speaking parts were edited out. He never complained when he didn't get enough screen time on music shows. He would always give a genuine smile after it's all over. But something slightly pinched the maknae's heart once he figured out his smiles were fake.
Sungmin and Kyuhyun were stated as one of the silent couples fans loved. They were never like EunHae or KangTeuk, who were happy to give their fans capturing moments. Sungmin and Kyuhyun just stayed by each other's side, with some loving moments and glances at each other in between, and their ELFs were satisfied with only that. They were one of the few pairings that gave rare yet touching moments.
But each moment always made Sungmin's heart twitch. He knew Kyuhyun didn't really like the boy-to-boy pairing so Sungmin lightened down the fanservice. He would give the snarky wolf a fake smile afterwards and walked away. But it was as if he wanted more.
A month before their 4jib comeback, Kyuhyun jokingly mentioned to the smaller boy that he didn't like his aegyoness. Weeks after, Sungmin approached Kyuhyun and confidently told him: "I will try to be manlier! Hwaiting!"
A day after, the younger one's jaws dropped once he saw his hyung with such a different hairstyle for the comeback. He was shocked at the sexy style Sungmin was going for and regretted joking about his cuteness.
Sungmin started to stand out a bit considering the unique clothing the company and staff prepared for him for music shows.
But later, Kyuhyun was out of sight due to him being in the hospital for surgery on his ear. Sungmin visited him often, head hung down while preventing his tears from falling.
"Hyung?"
"Ne?" Sungmin raised his head with innocent eyes.
"Stop it."
"Eh?"
"You don't have to act manlier for my sake."
"But Kyu, I-"
"If you want to do aegyo, it's fine."
"A-Ah, kahnsahamnida, Kyuhyun ah."
Sungmin didn't speak to Kyuhyun after that. But as Kyuhyun watched TV, he smiled while seeing the bunny doing aegyo on a new episode of a variety show. He noticed the elder was more cheerful and happy as well.
But once No Other promotional activities cane, Sungmin was oddly more than happy to be hidden in the ten-member group once again.
One thundery night, Sungmin groggily trotted over to the younger's bed, shaking him gently. "Kyu. Kyu..."
"Hrmm..?" Kyuhyun sat up, rubbing his eyes, and looked and Sungmin. "Oh, hyung..." He looked up and down at Sungmin, causing the latter to lightly blush. "I thought you stopped wearing a one-piece."
"Ne, but I forgot how comfy they are and- That's not the point! I-I can't sleep... So, can I... AH!!" He literally jumped into the maknae's arms once a loud clap of thunder occurred.
"Ah... you're afraid of thunder, hyung?" Sungmin kept a reasonable distance from Kyuhyun. The wolf noticed his shaking figure. He smiled, not a smirk, but a gentle smile.
"Come here." Kyuhyun offered a hand to Sungmin. Sungmin eyed his hand nervously but took it anyway. The latter helped him get into his bed comfortably. He put his arms around Sungmin's waist as Sungmin nuzzled his head into Kyuhyun's neck, his soft black hair brushing against it gently.
Sungmin closed his eyes, but instead of sleeping... Tears fell down his eyes. Kyuhyun eyed him, his eyes widening. "Why?"
"Why what, Min?"
"W-Why do I catch your attention, Kyu? I don't stand out. I'm not special. I-I don't get it..." He sniffed. "I don't like it when I don't catch attention of ELFs on shows... I want to be special like the others..."
They stayed silent in the same position for a few seconds. Then, Kyuhyun brushed the hair out of Sungmin's face and kissed his forehead. Sungmin's eyes widened and his face reddened.
"The reason is because you are special in your unique way, hyung. Your aegyo, your multiple talents, your voice, your looks..." Kyuhyun gazed into Sungmin's bright eyes. "Another reason is that I love you, hyung. I really do."
"R-Really? No... I don't believe you..." He blushed, realizing the small distance between them. He felt Kyuhyun's warn breath in his lips.
"Will you believe me after this?" Kyuhyun closed the very small distance between their lips. It was a soft, loving kiss that lasted for a few minutes. Sungmin closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, cuddling to the other.
"I love you too... Kyu..."
They spend the thundery nights like this. Sungmin's fear slowly vanished, and he didn't mind about being hidden in the group.
He was only concerned about being hidden or not from the person he loves. Nothing else.
