"Hey Kyuhyun-sshi. Help me organize these books into these shelves."
Sungmin, neatly dressed in his school uniform, bounced into the empty classroom with a small pile of books. He adjusted his black-rimmed glasses and set the books down on a desk. He looked to the side. Kyuhyun sat on his usual desk, playing on a PSP. He was wearing his school uniform casually as usual. Sungmin shook his head and smacked the younger one on the head.
"Aish, you should help me!"
"Why? You're the student council vice president. You do it."
"Well, you're the student council president, Kyu!" Kyuhyun stared at him, surprised at the new nickname. "You're supposed to help me!" Sungmin pouted cutely and crossed his arm, which was usually his way to make Kyuhyun help him with tasks like this.
"Alright, fine. I'm the only one for the position anyways since I can only put up with your excessive aegyo." Sungmin grinned in reply. "Thanks, Kyu!"
Sungmin and Kyuhyun usually came to school extremely early. They weren't friends at the beginning, considering Sungmin was classified as one of the high school nerds and Kyuhyun was usually a popular guy. But due to their positions in student council, they ended up getting to know each other and became slightly close friends.
It turned out their reputations at school weren't really who they were. Behind the glasses, Sungmin was very talented with music and with his looks; he would've been one of the flower boys of the school.
Kyuhyun was good-looking, yes, but he had a rough childhood and usually played games to isolate him. He also had a talent for singing. Both knew that about each other.
"I still wonder why you're not in a music class, Min."
"I might become popular that way and- HEY! Don't address me by that! I'm your hyung!"
"Oh, please Min. You're only older than me by a month."
"So?!" Sungmin put his hands on his hips. Kyuhyun chuckled at his 'hyung' being immature. "It's not funny~!" He almost sang.
"The way you're acting is funny. Come on, let's finish this." The two continued to organize the books.
Sungmin sighed and looked down. He really liked Kyu. Secretly he had a crush on Kyuhyun the first time he met him. But he always thought Kyuhyun wasn't into guys, especially geeks like him. Sungmin sadly pushed up his glasses and dusted the bookshelf with a pink feather duster.
Class went by quickly and surprisingly to the teachers; Sungmin was staring at the window and was constantly reminded to pay attention. Kyuhyun noticed this suspiciously.
The final bell rang and Sungmin rushed out as quickly as possible, happy that there wasn't a meeting today.
"Wookie! Hyukkie!" Sungmin waved to his best friends, Ryeowook and Hyukjae. They were resting under a small tree on the school grounds and smiled at their close friend. "Minnie!" Ryeowook squeaked and hid behind Sungmin, leaving the older confused. "He's nearby!"
"Who?" "Him!" Ryeowook pointed quickly at a boy with dark and soul-less eyes also dressed casually in their school's uniform.
"Who? Yesung hyung?"
"Who's Yesung?! That's Kim Jongwoon, the new kid who came here a month ago! He’s in my class too!"
Sungmin chuckled. "His nickname's Yesung. Weird nickname, huh? He looks emo."
"Well, he isn't!"
"Why, you like him?"
"SHHHH! Hyung, he'll hear!" Ryeowook blushed dark red as he covered his hand over his mouth. "Omigosh, he's looking at us!"
Sungmin flicked his tongue at Ryeowook's hand as the latter removed his hand. "Ewwww! Hyung! You licked me!"
"It was a tongue flick, not a lick."
"Same thing!"
"You know you liked it."
Jongwoon walked up to them, staring at Ryeowook with no expression. Sungmin waited patiently for either one of them to talk, then became impatient and pushed Ryeowook toward him. “Gosh, Yesung hyung, you can have him!” Ryeowook’s cheeks turned a darker shade of red as he felt Jongwoon’s breath on his ear. Jongwoon stepped back a bit.
“Um… I was wondering if Ryeowook-sshi can go to the library with me and do homework together. I need to catch up with the class.” Jongwoon brushed his nose awkwardly. Ryeowook stared at Sungmin as he gave a thumbs-up in reply. He turned back to Jongwoon and shyly smiled. “Sure! Maybe my mom can let you in our house and I can cook you a meal!” He said happily. Sungmin could’ve sworn the emo boy smiled.
“Sure. Can you lead me to the library too? I don’t know where it is…” Jongwoon scratched the back of his head. Ryeowook giggled. “Sometimes, you’re just full of fail, hyung! In a good way. Let’s go.” He headed off first and Jongwoon followed.
“Well, that was fun.” Sungmin stared at Hyukjae who was staring at something, or someone, from a distance. “Hyukkie, who are you staring at?” Hyukjae shook his head. “Oh, hyung, I can’t walk with you today.”
“Why not?”
“Donghae invited me over to his house…”
“OMO! You guys are officially a couple now?!”
“NO!”
“Oh, please. I know you like him. Confess to him!”
“I won’t! Not until KyuMin is real.”
Sungmin rolled his eyes, trying to ignore that statement. “Well, I’ll be walking home by myself then. See you, Hyukkie.” Hyukjae nodded and walked away.
Sungmin turned back. “DON’T DO ANYTHING NAUGHTY, YOU LITTLE MONKEY!” He ran off and hid before Hyukjae could run over and strangle him. He looked around and spotted Kyuhyun. Maybe he could walk with him. Then Sungmin spotted a girl next to him. Oh, Seohyun. He thought. They were hugging.
Sungmin suddenly felt like his heart hurt. He clenched his fists then released them. It’s just a hug, Min, it’s just a hug. He thought to himself as he closed his eyes. He opened them and widened them at the sight distanced from him.
They were kissing.
Sungmin felt something warm and wet go down his cheeks. He quickly wiped them away and rummaged through his pink messenger bag. He took out a cute-looking pink bunny stuffie.
“Here.”
“What is this? … OMO! A bunny stuffie!”
“Today’s your birthday, right? I checked your student data. Happy birthday, Min.”
“Thanks, Kyuhyun sshi!”
He didn't want to remember that memory. He threw the bunny on the ground harshly and ran off past Seohyun and Kyuhyun. Why was he doing this? They were never together anyway. But his heart was hurt and emptier than ever.
Kyuhyun watched the figure go past them. “… Sungmin hyung?” He watched the retreating figure and then noticed the pink bunny, picking it up. Seohyun glared and pranced over to Kyuhyun. She wrapped her arms around his neck. “Kyu… ignore him. Come to my house and play with me~” Kyuhyun scoffed and pushed her off.
“I don’t love you, Seohyun-sshi. I didn’t feel anything when you kissed me. And how dare you call me Kyu, you bitch. Only Sungmin hyung can call me that.” Kyuhyun growled. Seohyun instantly turned mad. “What does that whore have that I don’t?!” Seohyun suddenly touched the red spot on her cheek after she said that.
“Don’t. Call. Min. Those. Names.” Kyuhyun said sternly. “You don’t attract me. I only love one person. And one person only. Now you’ve hurt him.”
Seohyun’s fists shook. “Who is this person?”
Kyuhyun chuckled. “I love Lee Sungmin. It's obvious, isn't it?”
