Maki arrived a little early for her outing with Meisa, and as she'd told Meisa only a specific block she wanted to meet on, she found herself a fairly visible spot to stand toward the center of the block to wait on her friend.
Keeping an eye both ways down the street, and across it, Maki eventually spotted Meisa coming toward her. She smiled, waved, and tried to look the cheerful she didn't entirely feel.
Since her evening with Nino earlier in the week, everything had felt a little off to Maki. It was as though she'd had the carpet dragged out from under her feet, and there was nothing underneath but sand, and she was sinking. Maybe it was stupid but it had changed the parameters of her world.
She'd almost cancelled, but a stronger part of her decided she needed this, needed to talk to Meisa, who might very well already know what was going on. But she didn't know everything.
"Meisa, you made it," she said brightly enough as Meisa grew nearer.
When Maki spotted her, Meisa picked up her pace and put on a nervous smile and waved back. She could tell that her friend was distressed, Maki's body language gave her away. Was it about Nino and Ohno? Maybe now wasn't the best time to give Maki the tea after all.
"Hey Maki, of course!" Meisa gave what she hoped was an easy going smile, even as she fidgeted with the bag in her hands. There were too many topics to discuss. Meisa didn't know where to start.
Maki wasn't in any hurry to jump into any topics, simply because they were all such large ones to tackle, and Maki hadn't the faintest clue how to start tackling them.
So she focused on the first thing she noticed, and that was the bag in Meisa's hand. "What's this?" she questioned, pointing to it and paused before nodding her head down the street. She wanted food first, as she'd skipped breakfast, and Once Upon a Tart was calling to her from a few store-fronts away.
"This?" Meisa held up the bag as she and Maki started walking towards Once Upon a Tart. She had skipped breakfast also, having woken up late and rushing to get out the door on time, so she was glad that Maki wanted food first.
"It's for you," she mumbled quietly, then even softer, "for the full moon coming up this week."
