I love visiting the city but I could never live there. Working in downtown Baltimore is fine, but I'm more of a suburban guy. (or country... like where I grew up in NW Ohio.) I like the city nearby, for all its benefits, but it would drive me crazy to actually live there.
You know, I actually kind of like that we're not a suburb of a big city. The nearest "big" city is Charleston, WV, which most people have never heard of except to recite the state capitals. :) I've lived in suburbs of really big cities before (Dallas was the most recent), and they end up having a lot of the same problems as the larger towns. I've also lived in Nowhere, West Texas (think dust storms and tumbleweeds - yes, they actually exist!). Parkersburg is kind of in between, and I like that just fine. :)
It really is cool that way, isn't it? We went to a small marina where sternwheelers take off for Blennerhassett the other day, and it was as cool as going to the coast! I love my new hometown. :)
My answer would be the same as yours, surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, depending on how transparent my five-seconds-from-moving-back-to-Ohio-ness is on my blog). I love the convenience of things, the transportation, the food, the entertainment, the almost-everything. But I miss the pace of the country, the way people care about each other, the way things are CLEAN, and the way things are so cheap that you can work a retail job and still own a home. So I basically love where I am but envy you and everyone else, too.
It is interesting to hear about your longings for Ohio sometimes, and I do so love hearing about all your big-city adventures. I guess there's truth to the "grass is always greener" to some point in everyone.
