Surface Tension - [Exo III away mission] - [Kirk, Chekov, Harris, etc]

May 17, 2010 08:36

They had their orders, and they had their away team: Kirk, Chekov, Travis Harris, Gutierrez and Robinson, whom Kirk had never met. Though the Gutierrez woman was hot, in an understated fireplug sort of way. The mission was both simple and deceptively simple: figure out whether Roger Korby was alive down there and, if so, what he was doing ( Read more... )

Kirk was smirking, still smirking. God knew why, maybe he was touched in the head. Cумасшедший.

Harris had one of his larger rifles. Whether he was carrying it because it was fun and allowed, or likely necessary, Chekov didn't care. Gutierrez and Robinson were more subtle, or less equipped. Once again, Chekov didn't care. Both Kirk and he would have stanard issue, though Chekov always had his knives.

Cмог он спрятать оружия?

Stupid question, of course he could. Whether he had was the important question. Chekov would deal with it when it came. If Korby wasn't a frozen corpse, they might need weapons. Might not.

"Vhat exactly are ve vaiting for?" Chekov prompted sharply and regarded the operators at the controls. The two engineers stared at him nervously and nodded. "Energize."

Harris never really worried about things like phasers from behind. He wasn't real big on foresight. Besides, Chekov was his buddy, and Robinson and Gutierrez were solid guys. People. Could you say guys if one of them was a chick? He didn't think Gutierrez would mind. And Kirk looked like a happy skeleton. It was just hard to take that seriously.

He did, however, take his job seriously, and had his gun at the ready - though with the safety on, because he wasn't actually that much of a moron - as the transporter lights started to whirl. There was no fucking way he was going to get bit by some kind of furry lizard monster because he wasn't ready to shoot right after transporting. Not a third time, no sir.

Kirk was a happy skeleton, all things considered. It had been a setback, a detour, but things were shaping up so that it was not an entirely unwanted on. Well the skeleton part, sure, he could have done without, and he wanted his fucking balls back. But other than that, he was making the best of things.

That included a knife in his boot, and a wiry strength that he was improving all the time.

It was cold on the surface, especially with his body fat nigh evaporated, but Kirk stood firm, phaser out and armed, as they materialized and began too look around them. No signs of life, as yet. Just icy caves, the wind blowing furiously just outside though the interior protected them somewhat. The tunnel, wide here and lit though means Kirk could not see, continued lower, looking well-used and not entirely natural. They--whoever they were--were probably using these tunnels but had not built them.

"Lead on, fearless one," he said to Chekov, the fact the boy ranked him--at least for Uhura--galling but tolerable.

It was surprisingly comfortable. Just above zero. Chekov took a brief moment to relish the down draft of cold wind that seeped through the cave entrance and turned. He smiled at Kirk, something half genuine amusement and half superiority.

Безбоязненный Pуководитель? How appropriate.

Chekov motioned to Gutierrez and Robinson. With a silent jerk of his head the two loaded up and started down the tunnels. Harris knew his place, would keep up the rear if they were ambushed, though it was painfully unlikely. Chekov glanced at Kirk and smirked before starting down the tunnel.

He almost hoped Kirk were stupid enough to attack him. Chekov couldn't kill him, not without provocation, the Captain hadn't given him permission.
