Here's a list of my recs for the Donald Strachey Mysteries (mostly the movie!verse, though some may work for book!verse too).
The Best of Me by Candy Apple - RATING: NC-17 WORD COUNT: ~82,000 SUMMARY: "When Donald and Timmy are the victims escalating harassment, they must figure out who is behind the ugly actions before it's too late. Meanwhile, the ordeal brings the two lovers even closer to each other." MY NOTES: This is the longest Strachey fic I've seen around. Good plot and decent characterization.
The Thin Man Takes A Husband by Diana Williams - RATING:NC-17 WORD COUNT: 11,209 SUMMARY: "A mistaken encounter plunges Timothy Callahan into an adventure, as he pretends to be married to the fascinating detective, Donald Strachey, in order to protect an elderly woman from a mysterious threat." MY NOTES: A lovely pre-movie era fic that covers just how Donald and Timothy ended up together. Lovely characterizations.
