So far it is holding! I am scared to say that too loudly for fear it will go away.
Usually descriptions are my draw. I read too many books with terrible covers to let that be a true determining factor, but a really awesome cover can be a draw. Like, the original cover for The Secret History of the Pink Carnation was so awesome (plus the title) that I bought it on a whim. But covers are more a bookstore thing for me. Also, price matters more now that I'm doing so much reading on my kindle. If something sounds moderately cool and it's under $3 and has decent reviews? I'm probably getting it.
A warning: be prepared for the link dump to end all link dumps next week. Three weeks of hoarding will do that.
A really good, non-traditional cover will make me look twice at a romance. Just because all of them look the same, you know?
And when I'm looking at the recommendations page at GoodReads, I feel like I do look at the interesting covers first, so they're not totally useless. But definitely less important.
Yes! Heck, even a particularly awful one might make me read the description! :P
I'm not sure I even do it much there? Though it's been a while since I've looked at the recommendations page. Probably I look at the unusual covers, though, because, really, you can probably stretch that statement out further and say most book covers look rather the same.
Book covers definitely draw me to books I've never heard of. Also, the size of the book (can it fit in my purse, is it too heavy to carry? That sort of thing.)
Lately I go to the "recommendations" section for book buying. Now, if I can pu my comic books down long enough to start reading the books I've bought, that would be great!
I feel that there are very few books I come across that I don't have some sort of prior reference to,
YES. And sometimes I feel guilty about that and try to grab random stuff, but, even then, I'm choosing from a limited pool if we're talking library or physical bookstore. Someone still chooses which books I do and do not see on the shelves.
Yeah. It all feeds off of each other. And I don't really see a way around that? There are too many books, so it's not like you can go out and personally review every single one or, heck, even just read the DESCRIPTIONS for every single one.
I've never been a huge cover person, but a title can draw me in! Or if an author has my first name, haha. (Not as much my last name, I don't think.) Or, I guess, if it's the "right" genre
( ... )
But that seems so unfair (I mean, not that I don't do the same thing). Because there are sooo many books that surely there are a lot that DO slip through the cracks and we don't hear about for that reason? :(
Well, I mean, it's impossible for every single book to be read by someone with the power do something about it, impossible for every publisher to promote every book (poorly or not), so I guess that's what I mean.

Also, Kindles (and just shopping online in general) make covers less of a thing . . . .
