I'm looking for awesome books on Project Gutenberg! I've read all of Austen and am working my way through Sherlock Holmes, but otherwise I am not super knowledgeable on good oldish books.

I did The Scarlet Pimpernel last month and enjoyed it. I also read Anna Karenina last year and LOVED it. Plus, movie soon!

I have the paper version of Anna Karenina. Should probably get to that! Good idea for Scarlet Pimpernel, thank you! :)

Have you tried Elizabeth Gaskell? If you like Austen, you'd probably like her too. I've read North & South and Wives & Daughters, and I'm actually reading Cranford right now. North and South is my favorite of the two I've read. PLUS, all of them have fun BBC miniseries!

This is a recommendation solicitation!

So, I've been reading a different Shakespeare play every month, and next month my plan was to do Henry IV, Parts One and Two. However, I don't know a ton about the histories and don't know if I can/should jump in there or if I should do the play before that sequentially first. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I haven't read any of Shakespeare's histories but having watched a BBC documentary on them the other day it sounded as if reading Richard II might be helpful - certain characters are the same and, well, it's where the BBC's 'Hollow Crown' adaptations start! I haven't gotten around to seeing the adaptations but I highly recommend the documentaries - they've really made me want to read the plays!

Ha, the Hollow Crown adaptations were what made me question my choice! I will have to try to track all of that down. I wonder if it's going to legally air in the US or not.

Everyone needs to go read the Chaos Walking trilogy and then come talk to me about it! It made me cry on the train, multiple times. What higher endorsement do you need?!?

Also, if anyone's looking for contemporary YA I recommend 'Amy and Roger's Epic Detour' by Morgan Matson. It doesn't do anything spectacularly new but the characters are very endearing and their actions/feelings very realistic...
