Nominations!

This part is going to be pretty simple. Fill out the four question survey, post to the appropriate thread (and yes, there's some redundancy there, but just go with it), and we are off to the races! As a reminder, the categories are: Heroes, Heroines, Villains, and Scene Stealers.

Character: Han Alister
Book: The Demon King series by Cinda Williams Chima
Category: Heroes
Reason They Are Awesome: I love complex characters with confusing backgrounds who are imperfect and clearly human but who try to rise above their pasts. Han is that character.

Re: HEROINES beth_shulman October 26 2011, 23:13:40 UTC
Character: Meg Powers
Book: The President's Daughter series
Category: Heroines
Reason They Are Awesome: She's also a complex character who manages to be completely real in a very removed situation. She's funny, has bad days, isn't always a good friend, and is ridiculously stubborn. And brave. It's almost impossible not to love her, and respect is a given.

Character: Melisande
Book: Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books
Category: Villains
Reason They Are Awesome: I HATE HER. And I normally don't hate villains. They're often just kind of there for me. But she's layered and has a complex relationship with the protagonist and enough of a personality to, well, make me hate her!

Character: Dolores Umbridge
Book: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Category: Villains
Reason They Are Awesome: I mean, did you ever hate a character that much? I thought about nominating Voldemort but he doesn't even come close to how I feel when I read "hem hem".

Character: Lady Catherine de Bourgh
Book: Pride & Prejudice
Category: Villains
Reason They Are Awesome: "Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted?" pretty much sums it up, I think.

Character: Tiny Cooper
Book: will grayson, will grayson by John Green and David Levithan
Category: Scene Stealers
Reason They Are Awesome: HE IS TINY COOPER.

I could leave it there, and would not be telling a lie. Everything that Tiny Cooper is, is AWESOME. Here is a little bit of what his best friend Will Grayson has to say about Tiny: “Tiny Cooper is not the world’s gayest person, and he is not the world’s largest person, but I believe he may be the world’s largest person who is really, really gay, and also the world’s gayest person who is really, really large.” Tiny is fabulous. He is a true and honorable friend. He is flawless. He stages a musical about his own life in high school entitled "Tiny Dancer: The Tiny Cooper Story." I hear he does car commercials... in Japan. COME ON. Do yourself a favor, and get to know one of the greatest scene stealers in book history.
