My favorite Halloween costume was either Jem (of Jem and the Holograms) or Princess Leia. I'm an 80's baby, what can I say.

I read/and or finished three new/newish releases this week! Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas, The Mischief of the Mistletoe by Lauren Willig, and Great House by Nicole Krauss. I liked CEaFH a lot more than Kleypas's previous contemporary titles, but I'm glad I didn't buy it because it's way too short for a hardcover release. And TMotM was everything I could have ever wanted in a romance for Turnip and now I'm dying for the next official book in the series that's coming out in January.

Also, on a scale of one to ten, how dumb am I for planning to take the second day of NaNo off to read? Look, I've been waiting for the release of the new Nora Roberts book since April. I can't not buy it and read it the day it comes out.

I actually tend to like historicals better! Have you read Georgette Heyer? I think Lauren Willig has inspired me to get back into her.

Oh yeah! I used to read on the bus and there were plenty of "Well, now I have to finish it!" days.

I've tried Heyer in the past and didn't love her, but I want to try again. Which one should I start with?

Those are the best kind of days, really.

The Grand Sophy is the one most people recommend, though I started with Cotillion and really enjoyed that. The thing with her, is she kind of wrote several different genres? Like, she wrote these . . . thrillers, almost, and those don't work for me, but I love her pure romances.

I think the one I read first was Friday's Child? I know I have to give her a second chance since she's considered required reading for so many chick lit/romance writers.

I haven't read that one yet, but it's on my shelf. She's probably worth a second chance, depending on how much you've already read of her, but I know one of my other friends who reads a lot of romance couldn't get into her. And I'm more of a sporadic romance reader (well, sporadic every genre reader), so IDK. Maybe it's one of those weird things where it works better if you're not as familiar with her modern equivalents?

That could definitely be the case. But I'm going to go into a second try with an open mind. I mean, I WANT to like her, which sometimes helps, lol.

Definitely! And at least, either way, you'll know you HAVE given her a good try.

I almost went as Jem this year (not even a kid of the 80's - just a fan haha)
