Oh, I didn't care about the Emma/Knightley romance thing either, mainly because I couldn't stand Emma. Although like you, I didn't much care about any of it.
I was fairly 99.9999999% certain that Lizzie B would be the 'winner', and pretty much rightly so. I think I am the only one in the world who prefers the 2005 version to the BBC version, but I think it was just so beautifully shot, that it sucked me in. But I do prefer the whole thing- Keira, Matthew, the score, everything. Stone me now or stone me later...
Ha, I did watch it once, but probably won't again for the TOO LONG reason. Though the nice part of it being so long is it turns off the part of the brain that goes, "But they left out that! They changed that!" during most adaptation.
And I just really love the chemistry in the 2005 version. So, um, I guess I'm saying I'm the 2005 side, too?
YAY! Congrats spyglass_! Looking forward to what you're going to make us read. :D
If we do this again, can we get a month's warning so we can brush up on our Austen? (Or, um, read some of them for the first time.) I always feel bad voting for/against characters I don't know!
We'll probably do something similar, though I don't know if we'll do it Austen specific again. But that is a great idea about giving people some warning!
Oh dear. Now I have to pick a book. I'll get back to you guys ASAP!
I meant to watch some Austen adaptations this month, but real life and Farscape got in the way. I have the 2009 Emma and the Billie Piper Mansfield Park on my Netflix queue though, which I should get early next week because of some (odd) very long wait on Friends S8 Disc 2
( ... )
I really liked Lost in Austen! The last episode was the one I liked the least but I thought the changes they made to the story were actually hilarious - and sometimes a good way to say that there's more to one person than what you see at first glance (especially for Wickham and Caroline Bingley).
I know there's a lot of Austen fic somewhere, but it's not in my usual fic haunts - they're often on their own Austen-specific sites. So you might have to work for it a bit, but I think there's a good chance the fics you want already exist!
I think I might have liked it more if I had known what to expect. I went into it knowing basically nothing and got taken by surprise. I liked the idea of some of the changes, and definitely the idea that there's more to a person than you see at first glance. I just wish there had been a way to do that without Bingley running away with Kitty, I think.
Yeah, I know it must exist SOMEWHERE, although I suspect probably tons more for P&P than for some of the others. I just have no idea where to find it. I may be inspired to start digging now though.
And thanks :D I just hope I can pick a good book for next month!
A good archive to start with for Austen fic is Pemberley. It's not the easiest archive to navigate, though, which is what makes finding Austen fanfic hard to find. The thing I want to read, but haven't found yet is Georgiana Darcy/Colonel Fitzwilliam. I really want to read that.
