I'm speaking for myself here, but what I love most is participating in community events/contests that allow for multiple fanworks media. Contests with themes or discussions threads and that type of evens make it possible for everyone, no matter their skills or level of fannish involvement, to be able to participate all at once and get to know each another and squee. =)

I've found that it's very easy to open, say, a Ficathon to pretty much all mediums. You just say it's open. It's worked quite well for the Fleet so far.

That's another idea that occurred to me (naturally, right after I made the box) but I think it's what I'll end up doing, some kind of open style fic-a-thon or a prompt fest where the prompts can be used to make fanart, fanfic, or even a discussion or squee posts.
