02242011 Day 4 of Captivity

No calls. Slept solidly -more on that later. Two things to take care of last night but it was expected and required little time
-as long as the activities were error free...and they were.

Siegel's held a scotch festival [free!] with over 30 to try but the limit was twelve splash-sized servings from 6-8pm.

One of the better distillers in my amateur opinion. And they had some of the best looking women working their booth in my expert opinion.

1.Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban -good & especially for the price. Might pick up a bottle sometime.
2.Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or -decent
3.Glenmorangie Finealta -towards the end of the session, my taste buds were shot.

Irish whiskies are being visited in the coming weeks -Jamesons' good.

I like my whiskeys/bourbons too. Jim Beam Black is an old standby, but the one liquor store here has been having regular specials on Crown Royal Cask 16 which is dangerously smooth.

It seems counter-intuitive but I like scotch provided it's not smoky. I was at a bachelor party and a guy handed me a bottle of Johnny Walker Gold to take a swig from and I thought it was great. But at that price point I could more easily enjoy whiskey. I always feel like a bit of a dweeb when I say I want scotch that doesn't tasty smoky since that is the defining characteristic of so many brands.

What surprised me when I started to check scotch out -I didn't know:

1. Most distillers re-use barrels: bourbon, sherry, wines and some rum.
2. Not all used peated malt -smoke-

You're right about the prices, they're are outrageous and frankly, I believe some are high priced to give the luxury of illusion/top shelf.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban was $50 here - reasonable price -esp.for the money.
