It's going to be a busy fall. It looks like AAA game makers have learned that used sales are seriously hurting their profits, so they're really rolling out the reasons for you to buy new.

Sometimes I think I should preorder things, but I buy everything at Best Buy (to get reward zone points). :D

Looking at these fall releases, though, I'm glad (for my wallet) they pushed Bioshock 2 and I think it might be best from a business perspective. If they can hit around March/April, there will be people with new PS3 slims from Christmas looking for a new game, and income tax refunds encouraging splurges. All during a surprisingly uncompetitive time of year.
I'm an enormous sucker for swag and that's what keeps me walking in the door of GameStop. It's much like the way I prefer a real CD/vinyl with nice album art to digital-only; the experience extends beyond just the game for me. I will read all kinds of books, put a figure on my desk at work, etc. It probably isn't as materially rewarding as the points (or shaving a few dollars off the price at Amazon) though, I'll admit...

But since Amazon is usually cheapest, and since Atlus seems to prefer Amazon as a retailer (they're too niche for GameStop to bully them into exclusives), that will probably be where I get Demon's Souls.

I really want Alpha Protocol, but also want to wait for the reviews -- the developer unfortunately has a bad history of putting out games with great concepts but that were forced out the door a few months too early.

You're probably right that I should wait to request a day off for Alpha Protocol. :) I have the same giddy "awesome-looking new IP" excitement I had leading up to Mass Effect, but...
