My March trip to London: groceries, theatre & museum

Apr 07, 2020 22:45

Right before travel was shut down to slow down the spread of the Corona virus, I went on a weekendtrip to London I had planned months before. I had a ticket to a play on Saturday and on Sunday I was going to meet up with friends at the British Museum, that I'd never been to. Unfortunately my friends had to cancel last minute, so I visited the ( Read more... )

I'm so sad I couldn't come and meet you - next time! The British Museum fought to stay free even when the Tories had other museums charging people, and I'll always love them a bit harder because of that. Now of course, they are mostly all free again, and hopefully will stay that way forever. So many treasures...

Oh PS, the building in the background in your Tower of London photo is the Shard, not the shaft. (Too much pwp? LOL!)

Next time! I'm definitely hooked to the British Museum now.

*snorts* Ahaha, see that's what happens when I type from memory instead of double checking names. I think I'll leave it for now, it's funny (I am currently rereading Days in Our Lives, a massive classic J2 fic which is indeed mostly pwp (1000+ pages, whoopwhoop;)

hmm who's that one by? The title sounds familiar but...
I'm busy re-reading all Fleshflutter's fics and The Month of Open Doors by gekizetsu, plus going through a bunch of ones new to me by Morgan on AO3. Happy days!

History is such a fascinating topic. I love it. And look how old some of these things were. Incredible!! And for whatever reason it always makes me sentimental.

Sorry the second play was so intense.

AND ALL THE FOOD AGAIN!!!

The British Museum is quite an overwhelming overload of history; you travel back and forth through time and countries all over the place! I too get sentimental when I see when gorgeous creations humans have made throughout centuries. I was blown away by the glass plates, that whole section is awesome.

As for the play: it was the contrast between my response and most of the audience apparently finding the cruelty hilareous that was the most intense to deal with. The performances were impressive and I'm really glad to have great memories of the first play:)

It was a very fancy food weekend, I recommend all the things \o/

It looks like you had a great weekend, and I'm so glad you got to go to the British Museum. I'm so bummed I had to drop out at the last minute, but after Mr D had that brush with a live Corona case at work, I wasn't about to take a gamble with your health.

Are you still planning to come over for July? Hopefully we can make a date then if things have started to get back to normal xx

I did have a very good weekend, although the Corona warnings did make traveling feel a little eerie. I totally understand that we couldn't meet up in these circumstances.

If traveling is allowed by then, I will be back in London at the end of July for sure. I have a ticket for Hamlet with Cush Jumbo in the Young Vic on July 25th and I saw an announcement of a fascinating exposition at the British Museum in June/July, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed theatres and musea can open again and we will be able to meet up after all!
