Artwork QuickyBang 2019-1, the first: Paperpills!
Wahey, a new round of the quicky_bang! I plan to claim more fics until the BigBang starts in May;) My first choice was this intense Sam & Dean story that inspired me to make paper handcuffs. They are only partly visible in the banner, because I wanted the focus to be on the pills. You can see the full artwork below, including a peek behind the scenes of how I put the whole image together. May I present:

I didn't do much sketching for the handcuffs; I found a really clear image that I could use as the basis for my papercutting. I used a thick silver paper for the whole shape. (later I added some details in darker silver, see below)
Did some research for Alderall pills and discovered they were orange and white, giving me the colourscheme for the artwork! I glued the white half on top of the orange shapes (that I cut with scissors, because of the tiny round ends:)
Adding a dark silver piece of chain and screws to give the handcuffs some depth.
For Sam's face I edited a photo into a line model and I cut it out of orange paper.
After cutting all the dark lines I wasn't sure about having all of his hair as a cut out...
I merely put the cut-out back in place to see what I could save and discovered that by slightly moving it, it created exactly the messy look I was aiming for!
The edge of the orange paper was torn because I had used a piece of scrap for the portrait; I really liked that look , so I decided to take that idea further...
I got a piece of white paper and tore the edge. I was happy to see that the pills had enough of a shadow that I could use the white as a background too.
Then I played some more with the composition and moved the pills and handcuffs around:)
The last image is the one I used. I did make a couple of tiny digital edits to correct the pills that had a bit of orange peeking out from under the white and that's it!
