Where did they go? Also: invitation!

Back in the good old days of Livejournal you could find a list of your friends' birthdays on your homepage. Does anyone know if those dates were moved somewhere else or do I now need to check everyone's profiles?* I fear I may have missed a couple and I want to write them down on an actual paper calender to keep track.

I don't know about the list but you can go to My journal-> Settings and choose to be notified when someone has a birthday. :)

In the account settings you can choose to be notified when there's a birthday of one of your friends coming up. The notification is located in the start page right after logging in or on the recent entries page in the section "events" in the left column. The place where you also get notifications if someone added you to his friends list.

Ah, thank you, I found a couple more items I'd like to get a notification for; I only used that function for tracking. Even after so many years on LJ I'm still learning new things:)
