Panic! at the Disco -and me!- in Berlin

Dec 07, 2010 20:21

Okay, so I didn't get to put Brendon and Spencer in my pocket and feed them M&M's, but Zack did allow me to give them chocolate <3

The whole story... Beware of squee
TLDR? Quick link to photos
On Sunday December 5th, I got up at 6 a.m. and cycled to the station to catch the first train of the day to Deventer. There I got on the international train to Berlin, that left at 08.19 am and arrived at 13.20, exactly according to plan. I took the S-Bahn (subway) and Tram to the Velodrom for the Extreme Playgrounds BMX & Skating Event, where Panic was to perform at night.

After walking around for about half an hour, I was found by fellow fan lumikki_fee aka Peggy, who had just arrived with her sister Isabel and her friend Janina. Together we checked out the venue, sat down with food and drinks and watch parts of the BMX and skating competition.
Around 16.30 Peggy and I got in line for a signing session of Panic! at the Disco \o/ and Isabel and Janina, bless their little hearts and souls; THEY TOOK PICTURES OF IT. Wahey!

Singer Brendon and drummer Spencer were sitting behind a table and slowly but surely we moved closer. The 5th of December is an important holiday in the Netherlands: on this day Sinterklaas hands out chocolate letters to everyone that's been good;) So I had brought the whole band -and Zack, the bodyguard- their initials in chocolate. Since I had heard we weren't allowed to give the guys anything, I first approached Zack to ask permission. AND HE SAID OKAY! So I put the bag with chocolate on the table and started explaining the significance to Brendon and Spencer. And they gave me all of their attention (oh my) and listened very intensely to my babbling. As a thank you BRENDON DREW ME A HEART on the photo they were handing out. Then Zack took the bag and said he would take care of it;) After that I showed Brendon the handkerchief I made for the occasion and he happily signed that too! I also talked to Spencer for a bit and I think I wished him good luck for the concert. Ahem.

I was thrilled they took the time for everyone and the guys were supernice. I don't even care if they possibly chucked the chocolate because of previous bad experiences with fanfood. Hahahaha: Zack tweeted about the chocolate! *grins*

And the concert was still to come! First there were some more rounds of BMX and skating and a performance by the TrashMonkeys. Those guys looked like teachers on a schoolnight, but they sure rocked! When they were done a lot of people moved to the other side of the arena to watch more BMX and/or skating. That meant we got to pick a place close to the stage for Panic! The four of us stood right after the first row of -tiny- fangirls and -boys and had a perfect view. \o/
They started playing at 19.00 and the audience was so very well behaved (exept maybe for the whooping girl right in front of me, but Brendon enjoyed her warcries, so all was well;). I had plenty of room to dance a bit, even though I was nearly up front!
The concert was perfect: Brendon's voice was yet again amazing and he hit all the high notes. He moved around a lot and did some bantering in between songs, mostly with Dallon. Ian seemed to be enjoying himself on the other side of the stage and I had a perfect view of Spencer giving it his all (I adore that drumbit in I Constantly Thank God For Esteban)

I must admit I liked the sound just as well as the concert I saw in 2008. The band was just as great and I love all the arrangements.
To keep track of the playlist, I filmed the intros of all the songs, but I prefered to focus on stage for most of the concert;) I did upload my series of vids on You Tube, but be aware the sound isn't that great -especially on the first vid the bass is rather heavy- If you want to experience the concert, watch the playlist of the official videostream made available by starafar. My vids are really mostly for my own amusement *grins*

Just to be complete here's the playlist:

And now... photos!
The quality may not be too impressive, but again; I made them for my own memories and as proof I was there :-p

I arrived at the Velodrom around 14.00. Well, I knew it was there somewhere, but I had some trouble finding the entrance... But a very nice elderly couple sent me in the right direction. Yay!

Inside the BMX and skating competition had already started, but I arrived at time for the signing session...

Around 16.30 we got in line; can you tell I'm excited?

The security guards of the venue told me off for taking pictures while standing in line. Since I didn't want to risk anything I put my camera away and simply enjoyed the moment. I was so happy to find out that Isabel took pictures of me and the guys. <3

I think Spencer is making that face because Zack took away the bag with chocolate letters;)
I am busy smiling at Brendon because he is drawing me a little heart:)

After I got my autographs I had the opportunity to take some photos myself. They are so focused!

First the Trashmonkeys performed; they looked like teachers on a schoolperformance, but I liked their sound and enthousiasm very much. They rocked:)

After another round of BMX and skating it was time for Panic! at the Disco.
We are so ready. \o/

Spencer on drums, Dallon on bass

Brendon being a spaz, yay:)

Ian on guitar and Brendon on keyboard.

I'm amused to see my hand filming the band but I'm so sorry, Isabel for blocking your view, especially after you took those awesome pictures of me and the guys. I'm forever in your debt.

\o/ Panic! at the Disco \o/

I know it's not sharp, okay. But it's Brendon being fierce. *g*

This is my absolute favorite photo of the night.

It was AWESOME. The end. :-D

After the orgasmic Panic concert I had a crepe-kirsch and a Sprite while the rest of the girls went out for a smoke (We all have our own way of enjoying the afterglow, I suppose;)

Because I had a lot of time to kill until my nighttrain back home, I stayed for the rest of the competition, the awardceremonies and closing concert. (seen on the big screens next to the concert-stage)

Final act was Boy Sets Fire. I had never heard of them: loud band.
Crowd seemed to enjoy themself in the mosh pit. I'm glad I was watching from the bleachers;)

Bye Velodrom! You warmed our hearts so we are able to face the snow outside with a smile:) Around 22.15 we took the tram to Alexanderplatz and said goodby on the S-Bahn.

Souvenirs!

I had an awesome day and it was well worth the long journey and missing out on the holiday at home. Thank you, Peggy, Isabel and Janina for letting me hang with you. Thank you, Panic! at the Disco for making this possibly the best Sinterklaas ever :)

If you want, you can read about my whole travelexperience in my photoblog;)
