On The Shelf 082- Johnny Marr

One of the more anticipated albums of the year is Johnny Marr's solo album The Messenger.

I'd planned to blog this one as well once I'd heard some songs from it. The blokes at Uncut have said it's the closest he's ever gotten to playing like the guy who used to be the guitarist in The Smiths. That's more evident from the album track above than the single.

Anyway, Marr was always just as responsible for my love for The Smiths as Morrissey (apologies to "lawn mower parts" Joyce and Rourke), so I have been looking forward to this, even though I haven't really cared for much of his post-Smiths work apart from Electronic and a few guest slots. I'm sure some people will hold him up to Morrissey's solo albums and complain that he's no Morrissey in the vocals/lyrics department, but then who is?
