It's been a busy week here at the hobbit hole. But the biggest news is that my adorable genius grandbaby -- not quite 17 months old now, mind you -- has expanded his vocabulary to include "helicopter" and "umbrella" and "purple". tatties and neeps. Hmmmm sounds like something you might want to keep private maybe not share at dinner???

No, silly person! Tatties and neaps (note the correct spelling), are a traditional Scottish recipe -- slightly older than haggis.

In plain American English, it's potatoes and rutabaga and/or turnips, all mashed together with garlic and pepper. Tatties and neaps are great with butter or with gravy, and make terrific potato pancakes on the morning after.
