Prepping for Research Trip

Yesterday, I had a revelation. It wasn't a big one. Probably, it was one that most of you had and didn't really notice or pay much attention to. Here it is:

OMG, it's July.

Did my first draft get written in June? No. I'm okay with that. I've made progress and will make more and the draft is moving forward. I have some feeling that, with this story,

OH, thanks for the idea about the camera! I think I'll ask my sister to bring hers, too; I'm a lousy photographer; things come out too blurry. I was wondering about copies!

Making a list of questions is a great place to start! You may find that the museums are slow to answer you -- some museums are bombarded with email and underfunded, a tough combination -- but the better you can pinpoint what you're after, the more likely your email is to get sent on to a researcher who can help. And when you're at the museums (or on their websites) keep an eye out for any museum publications in your area of interest. These can be hard to find elsewhere but are often chock-full of useful information.
