Woah... THIS, I really liked, even though Zuko wasn't even present! I've never actually read a fic in which Iroh dissaproves of any lover his nephew takes... probably because in most fics Iroh seems please enough that Zuko has found ANYONE at all who makes him feel loved. ;)
But I can definitely understand Iroh's objections in this case. I like so many character bits in this fic - Iroh threatening Jee because he feels protective of his nephew, with Jee pointing out that Iroh doing so is in itself treating Zuko in a way that he shouldn't be treated... Also, a background reference to what Jee did to have his topknot cut off! :D Of COURSE Iroh would know what sort of men are on the ship! ;)
Also, the last line (Jee gets the last word! <3 ) = WIN. :)
Oh, and I should also like to mention that I really liked this sentence: "Well, this was going to be unpleasant no matter which way the firebreaks were laid." I do so love little culturally-specific expressions! :D
Sometimes I can get the cultural-specific expressions good enough to both convey what I'm going for and not sound silly. That was definitely one of those times. ^_^
Iroh oh-so definitely has good reasons for not liking this new turn of events. It is one thing of Zuko is doing something like tumbling scrawny wild Earthbois or pretty Watermaids. It is quite another with an officer under his command three times his age.
Jee, of course, does get why Iroh objects but thinks that Iroh ought to treat Zuko like an adult and let the prince make his own decision. (Of course, he also knows Zuko would not give up the sex and affection just because of age-differences. Lt. Jee is not a good man sometimes.)
Yeah, Jee does have a vested interest in defending Zuko, here. ;) And Iroh knows that. I really do agree with your reasoning of THEIR reasoning in this fic. :)
Ohh, Iroh! I love it when Iroh acts protective, even if it's about a paring I like.
Wonderful background history. Do you know why Jee's hair is so short? I loved the tension there. I was truly expecting something to explode and was almost afraid to continue reading. ^^
No, I don't yet know why Jee's hair is so short. I'm sure he'll tell me eventually, but I like it as this lurking background doom around him. Sometimes things are better alluded to than explained.

Jee will take being wronged, and sometimes he'll take being insulted, but never once his temper's gotten up.
