Naga Meme!

I love nagas. I love nagas a lot. (Actually, I like all kinds of human-animal hybrids, as my mermaid, octomaid, selkie, drider, and scorpionman obsessions attest. HOWEVER. Today we are concentratining on nagas.)

This is an Avatar'verse AU where the Firefolk are nagas. For people who need references to what nagas are, I direct you here and here. ( Read more... )

I would like to see Ty Lee doing acrobatic tricks as a snake.

Ty Lee doing acrobatic tricks beckyh2112 December 14 2009, 05:13:45 UTC
Ty Lee shifted and unknotted her tail, then twisted wrap her arms around the end, forming a circle. She went tumbling that way, back and tail, sky and ground, rolling until she let go and came up somewhere else.

Then she twitched her scutes and began sidewinding, until that bored her and she dove into a hand-stand, raising all of her strong tail off the ground for a full minute.

She grinned as she came down again, her tail shaping into a labyrinthine pattern.

Mai clapped softly, and Ty Lee took a bow.

Thank you!

Ty Lee shifted and unknotted her tail, then twisted wrap her arms around the end, forming a circle.

Does not quite parse.

Seems like she enjoys herself!

She makes a big ring of herself. Though you're right, does not quite parse. I blame it being late.

Just a heads up on the use of the word naga; I get that you're talking about generic human-snake hybrids but keep in mind that to many people in India, nagas are powerful spirits that are held in reverence and even worshipped in festivals. Growing up as I have on the religious mythology of Hinduism, it kinda broke my brain to see real gods from my life and Avatar mixed up together!

Toph feeling up the vibrations.

It's late, and I'm not parsing very well. What do you mean by this?

"Go there, pretend to be guards, look for your father. That's your plan?" Zuko asked carefully.

"Yeah, sure," Sokka said blithely. "Why, what's the problem?"

His tail was curled tightly underneath him, but the balloon was really too small to hold a naga and a human both. Not comfortably. But it would have been even worse with another naga.

Zuko shifted uncomfortably and very lightly flicked the tip of his tail against Sokka's knee. "You can't really hide your legs, Sokka."

Sokka swore, and Zuko made note of the expressions he hadn't heard before. Just in case he needed them for the future.

Zhao in the library. Nagas are seekers of knowledge. No, really. See this knowledge he brings you, Wan Shi Tong?

There are naga in Ba Sing Se. Long Feng tries not to headdesk.

Ozai and his newly first-hatched; "You are meant for greatness." Which isn't to say OZAI isn't meant for greatness.

"I am but a seeker of knowledge," the naga officer said, eyes lowered, rattle-tail arranged in a pattern of respect. He proffered a scroll in his hands, which Wan Shi Tong took from him with a sweep of feathers.

The scroll was an opera, of all things, and the knowledge spirit felt some part of him warm with affection for the naga. So many people brought him science or philosophy and forgot that knowledge also included the entertainments of a people.

"Very nice," Wan Shi Tong murmured, and the naga bowed. Scales rustled against the library floor as the tail rearranged itself in a pattern of even greater respect.

Such a polite naga. Handsome voice, too, and the knowledge spirit knew so many things about his kind and their tails-

"The coyotes will assist you," Wan Shi Tong said brusquely, feathers fluffing out as he shook away the thought.

Reflected in the floor, he could see the naga's smile.

*purrs over mental images of Naga!Ozai*
I've mentioned before that I love you, yes?

Ozai and Zuko, the awe of a child for his father.

Ozai - "The way he moves, so sensuously dangerous."

Haru and Zuko, S3-ish - "Fantasizing about that tail was surely the guiltiest of pleasures."

Mai, angry and literally spitting venom.

Jee and Zuko, Zuko is so starved for touch.

After the eclipse, Ty Lee spent some time ogling all the captured humans. So were a lot of other nagas, and tails kept slipping in among the prisoners to touch the strange legs. Ty Lee didn't bother, of course, because she'd seen plenty of humans in the Earth Kingdom. But she did want to see if one or two humans in particular had been part of the attack.

Evidently they hadn't been, because she couldn't spot the Earth Kingdom boy's luxurious chestnut hair and all of the Water Tribesfolk were adult men. She sighed, her tail reflexively arranging itself in a pattern of disappointment, before going to hunt for Mai and Zuko. You couldn't find one without the other these days.

As Ty Lee approached Mai's room, she heard the distinctive sound of a rattler's tail rattling. She gulped, then pushed open the door-

With a yelp, she ducked as spikes tore through the air. They stuck in the far wall, quivering. Ty Lee looked at them with wide eyes before turning back to Mai.

Her aura was so wild, spiking with bloody-red and black. Her rattle was ( ... )

Zuko is starved for touch. The simple slide of scales against scales, the clasp of hands. Resting his head on someone's shoulder. Being hugged, being held. Tails curled over each other.

Anything, he craves anything. He craves, and all around him he sees his men's tails brushing against each other, slithering over each other, innocent habit because it is a ship and nagas take up a lot of space ( ... )
