Scott Westerfield's final NaNoWriMo tip for this round: finish everything

Something fan-writers should take to heart, imo.

I don't understand why anyone would make a habit of not finishing their written works. Yes, writing is a lot of effort. At times writing that first draft is like crapping a brick, and I mean that on so many levels. But the finished story is the payoff! Why put in any effort at all if you're not going to get anything out of it?

I have no idea.

Though, to be fair, both of us seem to write quite differently from other fan-writers. I'm a serial short-story writer, while you do short-story arcs that tell a whole story. Lots of people seem to like to do serialized novels.

Heh. I'll confess something - my short-story arcs are not always planned out. I wrote that way for ReBoot, but for MOTU, Darkwing Duck, Oz, et al, it's been a case of getting one idea while writing on another, and getting anothe idea while writing the second, and so on.

Yeah . . . this sentiment is what got me off my butt to finish Winter's City even after not touighing it for, liek three years, and I plan to do the same with my Nono project even though it's no where near done. What are you working on this year, yourself?

A whole bunch of different things. I've got three Christmas exchange fics to write, a fic I've been releasing in parts to finish, and some original fic to go back and break down and rebuild.

I've got to kick my own ass about finishing original fic, I've noticed.

I've got at least two outstanding fics that may or may not get finished. And a novel-- that hasn't been given an ending. Instead, I'm working on a different piece, and the art.
Which may not be finished.
I'm guilty of not finishing. Anything.
