I really like this. Mostly because it's nice to see JJ actually attemptingto relax instead of holing himself up in some dark corner and angsting his life away. :)

And I love your descriptions.

Not when Piandao leans so close, grey eyes intense as flint and steel just before they strike.

This line was my favorite.

I imagine the first few days involved Piandao shoving him outside and refusing to let him come back in until sundown. ;-)
