Why do I get the impression that I've wandered into a Bond movie?

So... everyone knows that that 'certain' elements of Russian society are trying to silence LJ - the one free channel of expression available to many in that country?

Needless if there is one thing that *royally* p*sses me off (other than talking in cinemas while the movie is playing and bad customer service) it's censorship ( Read more... )

I migrated over in 2009 after the purges. I only follow a few people over on LJ anymore and post (with crossposting) on Dreamwidth when I do post that is. I find that there are less disruptions and the atmosphere there is much like LJ was in the early days. Damn that made me sound old.

And as for the lenght of time this week's dreamwidth update stated it could take 24 hours or more due to LJ problems. Good luck, hope that things go well migrating over.

Is there a way of automatically moving your entries across? Or do you have to do it by hand, one post at a time?

I lost my 42 over at DW. Though I only added it at LJ because there was already a nialla, it's become a part of my ID now.

I don't plan to move full force to DW, though right now DW is asking people not to try anyway, because the demand is an added stress on LJ's servers as they fight off botnet attacks.

The only reason I keep a DW account is for emergencies and because some people's default style kills my eyes when trying to read their fic. One reason I shied away from DW was their own visual style was way too bright for me, and there wasn't much ready-made stuff to use. They've spiffed up since then, but by that time, too many "evangelists" soured the idea in general.

The Fannish and the Real stay as far apart as humanely possible, better for all that way.

I use a fannish related expression to convey this idea: "Don't cross the streams." (Ghostbusters)
