Ok, one thing that's been bothering me a lot lately is the majority of the mainstream press coverage of X Japan's debut in America. This article in particular has so many things wrong with it I'm surprised anyone let it be published.

Let's start with this sentence:
He floats past a horde of extras dressed in Hot Topic Goth and stops to examine a ( Read more... )

>Er, isn't America basically "a culture that mastered the art of imitating and copying original ideas"? And yet they're saying this about Japan?!

Truth be told, Japan ADAPTS ideas and EXPANDS on them to different forms/ways/levels which makes them innovative in a different aspect.

I hate that I can't edit my comments anymore.

What bothers me whenever any sort of western news source gets a hold of interviewing Asian, or Japanese if you wanna get specific, artists is that they are either patronizing and belittling (to the women) or mocking and dismissive (to the men). It's kind of disgusting, if you consider the history in America towards people of Asian descent and laws that were in place against immigrants from those countries/illegally detaining them/treating them like slaves or dirt or less than human. It really sickens me that these sentiments still exist in "joke form" to this day, and if you try to call someone out on it they wonder what your problem is. Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm not comfortable watching people treat Asians like they're some kind of alien race occupying the goddamn planet...

I actually agree with you here. UGH. While I thought the article was one of the best they've had in major US media, the patronization and shit is way beyond the pale. And the "omg rock is dead blaaargh." Yes, we rock and metal fans *get* that we're stupid and relics of a dead and bygone era, bring on.... what, exactly?
