The flash of the Daedalus' transporter beam wasn't unexpected. Colonel Caldwell has already radioed down to let Atlantis know they'd arrived in orbit.

Colonel Sheppard's reaction to the new arrivals, however, was unusual. He'd been lounging in one of the chairs in front of Dr. Weir's desk, and looked over at the flash of light. Immediately he sat up straight, his throat working as he swallowed in surprise.

"Colonel?" Dr. Weir asked. "Everything all right?"

"Uh, yeah," he said, turning to watch as Colonel Caldwell and a dark haired woman in Air Force dress blues walked up the stairs and through the control room. Carson wondered why she was in heels on Atlantis of all places. Didn't she have a flight suit or a pair of the BDU's like John and the rest of the Atlantis military?

John stood when Colonel Caldwell and the woman entered the room. "Colonel Caldwell, Major Andrews," John said, nodding at them.

The major handed John a folder. "Lieutenant Colonel Sheppard," she said. "Sign and it will all be over."

Carson and Dr. Weir looked at each other, confusion showing on both of their faces. John glanced at the papers, raising an eyebrow. "You sure you want to be this generous, Major?"

"It's worth it, Colonel," she replied, reaching into a pocket and pulling out a pen. "All it needs is your signature."

"Wait a second," John said, turning away from her, still looking at the contents of the folder. "If I'm going to be signing legal papers that will affect the rest of my life, I'm going to read them over carefully."

Major Andrews crossed her arms over her chest, one foot tapping. Colonel Caldwell cleared his throat, and she subsided.

"Colonel?" Elizabeth asked, looking at the major.

"Dr. Weir, Dr. Beckett, this is Major Emma Andrews, United States Air Force. She's newly posted to the SGC."

"Welcome to Atlantis, Major," Elizabeth said politely, holding out her hand. Major Andrews looked at it blankly before shaking Elizabeth's hand.

"Dr. Weir. I won't be here long, I'm heading back to the SGC on the Daedalus."

Carson wondered what this woman would be doing at the SGC. He doubted she was a lawyer, she didn't seem to have the people skills.

John tapped a finger against the paper. "What's this?"

Major Andrews came over and looked. "What, you want more?"

"I don't want anything, Emma," John said. "I never did," he said with a sharp glare.

"Well, you're getting it," Major Andrews said, crossing her arms again. "Colonel, this has been approved by the lawyers. Including yours," she added pointedly.

John snorted. "Lawyers, right."

"John?" Elizabeth asked. "Should we leave you and Major Andrews alone?"

"No." John and Major Andrews spoke in unison. John reached out and grabbed the pen from Major Andrews' hand and scrawled his signature on several pages. He closed the folder and handed the pen and folder back to the major.

"Done," he said.

Major Andrews nodded. "Colonel Caldwell, Colonel Sheppard, Dr. Weir, Dr. Beckett," she said with a barely contained nod. Caldwell hit his radio and the two of them beamed back to the Daedalus.

John sighed and then turned to Carson, a wicked gleam in his eyes. Carson stared as John practically stalked forward, raising his hands to Carson's jaw and pulling him in. Carson sighed at the first touch of John's lips, his worry about John's career lost in the feel of a first kiss with John, a kiss that was long overdue. He was vaguely aware of Elizabeth leaving the office.

When he pulled back, John smiled. "I've wanted to do that for so long, but I had to wait until my divorce was final."

Carson blinked. "You were married to her?"

"Foibles of youth. I think have better taste now." John gave him a grin.

Carson smiled back and pulled John closer. "Oh, I'd say so," he responded before kissing John again.
