Hurricane Pictures, Part 1

Sep 28, 2005 01:13

So, my dad brought his camera when he came up this past weekend, and he let me download copies of his pictures. I had seen the satellite footage, I had heard the stories (and guessed that his house would be gone before the storm had even passed), but seeing pictures is quite another thing. I'm glad that I've seen them, though, since I'm going ( Read more... )

Rebecca, wow. I am so very sorry for your family. I hate... hate hate hate that so many people are going through this. As I was looking through those pictures I had the same feelings as I do with mine and just despise the face that other people have to go through the same thing my family is going through. I know we're not the only ones, but I also know how heartbreaking and gut-wrenching it is and that others have to go through it also. I don't know what to say to make it better. I don't know what to say to make anything better... I just can completely sympathize.

Thank you, Angelina. Like I told Lauren (below), I read about your family and your house and saw the pictures and just didn't know what to say. Just know that I'm thinking about you every day and if there's anything I can do, please let me know. *hugs*

I think he meant it was tidal as in the water was from high tide. That's another reason why this storm surge got so high; it was high tide when it got there. That street, as you well know, always gets some pretty deep water even during normal thunderstorms. I totally didn't know your dad was living there. I'd seen the house while I was home, but didn't know who built it. It was gorgeous :/

It really sucks that they had just moved in. It definitely looks like they had made it a home, and not just a house.

If you need to talk while you're home this weekend, if it gets overwhelming or anything, you know you can call me any time day or night. *hugs*

I didn't know that about the tide.

Yeah, it was a really nice house, and it was a home, not just a house.

Wait till you see the pics of my grandparents' house -- remember, that's where I had my 16th birthday party?

I really appreciate that, Ellen -- I probably will call you. Maybe not to talk about being down there, just to chat, yanno? I might need that.

My mom just came up for a couple days and was telling me stories last night. We sat and cried as we went over pictures that were saved and random stuff that we all have left. See, My mom and aunts were raised in the house where my grandparent's resided until Katrina. As you know, I resided there until I was 14 as well. We all grew up in that house, and now there is nothing left but random stuff that doesn't even belong to us. I don't know if I am ready to go home yet. I just don't know if I can see it- nothing will ever be the same. Again, I am so sorry for you and your family- we all have to stick together to get OS back better than ever.

That's how it was with my grandparents' and especially my great-grandmother's houses. I read about that in your LJ, how you grew up in that house and now everything is gone. I think I read it during the week when I had just had enough and was blocking everything out -- I understood what you were saying, but I just didn't know what to say.

I don't know if I'm ready to go home yet either (heh, even literally -- I haven't started packing yet), but this is really my only chance, so...here I go.

I agree, we do need to stick together.

*hugs*
