Impala!

May 02, 2008 19:17

A couple of days ago, I was talking to kittyzams about the rusty old Impala that lives around the corner from me. And after some fighting with my digital camera (which seems to have decided it wants to act like an external drive and make me take pictures off it manually, instead of talking to iPhoto the way it used to), i bring you... a sad old car! With a ( Read more... )

things that are dorkily awesome, spn

Aww. That poor car! It really does need Dean. :(

What about that Jensen/Danneel/Jared fic? Did you hit a stop on that one? I think it sounded cool!

Iknorite? :(

I'm still working on it, in secret, so as to put off working on my Big Bang. I'm having way too much fun making Jensen socially awkward, so there's no threeway yet, but it's getting there. I really hope this isn't one of those fics that only seems awesome to me.

It's so unbelievably GORGEOUS here now. Apparently, Chicago is awesome at spring once it gets around to it. I promise the hand has a person attached usually. I just couldn't crop the picture without cropping the car.

The ironic thing about that is that I still don't read all that much Wincest, but it is an interesting fandom, so I hope you're enjoying it. :D

That looks like a faded, unloved version of the 1966 four-on-the-floor Impala that I learned to drive on. Lovely engine, fast pickup, didn't skid on corners. And it got about as many miles per gallon as I get now.

I had no idea you learned to drive on an Impala. That's neat. It looks like such a big car, I'd been wondering about the gas mileage.

Four on the floor, not automatic. It had the nicest transmission I've ever shifted. It would be a big car these days but it was average then. My father always tinkered with it a lot, but it got about 22-27 mpg (which is what my 4-Runner gets on highway.) That was pretty good then, too, considering I was living out in the country, about 20 miles from the nearest city, so essentially I was driving highway all the time. Standard shift cars could get better mileage because there are ways of driving them to minimize the amount of gas used, which can't be done as well on automatics.

But oh, it was a lovely ride. (I don't have a pretty car icon, so you get pretty Ben.)

My family's never owned an automatic, so I don't know how big the difference is, but that's not bad mileage at all (and I know the Winchesters would drive standard). I imagine the tinkering didn't hurt either.

(I see your pretty Ben, and raise you a fluffy cat.)

Dude, I want to come save it and fix it up. It needs love.

It does! I have this urge to leave a note on the windshield like, "Let me buy your car and love it for you," only I know I don't actually have the resources to do that. :(

I've been wondering what exactly it looked like since you mentioned it a while ago. Thanks so much for the pictures. Supernatural does make car geeky-ness. This one definitely needs that love and attention. On our snowshoe trip there was a classic shiny black 2 door muscle car at the campground (sadly not an Impala, a Landau "Monte Carlo") however it's liscence plate frame said "metallica" on it and that made me insanely happy. I sadly did not have a camera. I thank you for thinking of us and carrying your camera with you. ^^

This car has been parked on the same block since I got here in September, so it's actually a little sad I've only gotten around to posting pictures now. ;)

I get really excited every time I see an old muscle car, but then they never turn out to be Impalas. 'Tis sad.
