It's like how else are we supposed to possibly interpret this set up? Which perhaps is why it doesn't bug you like most slash does? Because there's a context in which is seems plausible, nay, likely?
Though I think we're probably supposed to just see them as friends of convenience - perhaps becoming good buddies - while platonically co-parenting their adopted daughter.
I'd so love it if the show went there, though, and had a romance between them because...well...it's be really unexpected, and in this instance, IT WRITES ITSELF!
If only Matt hadn't just put their little girl in a coma. OH WAIT. That leads to angst. WHICH TOTALLY LEADS TO MORE GAYNESS. Angst=emo=sexual tension.

I'm all about the context so this is totally acceptable to me (see icon *grin*). Similarly, I couldn't argue the whole Batman & Robin thing either.
