I AM HOME! (What I Did, Who I Met, Recs and Assorted Lunacy)

Oct 14, 2009 16:50

I'M HOME! Honestly, it's somewhat depressing cus now I'm exhausted and jetlagged and have to go to work tomorrow. BUT, I had a fantastic time on holiday and while I was away, while things did not go as awesome as they might have, nothing exploded which given the state of some things when I left them, was a minor miracle ( Read more... )

i love you all, fic rec, vid rec, show rec, meeting mah flist, it's called a holiday dammit!

YOU BRITONS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND SHEPHERD'S PIE LIKE WE DO.

Our country struggled mightily to imitate the whole "meat in a crust" thing, and all we have to show for it is Hot Pockets.

I kind of like hot pockets... :p

Seriously though, this obsession with meat-in-a-crust has me baffled. Cus like, dude, MEAT IN A CRUST. But that's why I love savory PIE, not flavourless mince under vaguely crispy flavourless mashed potato. And I say this as a great lover of mashed potato... *EMO*

Um, on the bright side, you'll be the only foreigner at Starfury not complaining about british cuisine? (Hell you'll probably be the only PERSON at Starfury not complaining about the cuisine!)

Let me know about that though! I'm already heading down to London around then anyway as it turns out so depending when that is might make it easier to meet up with you for the afternoon or something and meet new people and stuff? Well, either way, have a fabulous time.

*icon used in solidarity with your fabulous Natalie icon rather than cus there's anything crap here!*

I was going to tell beccatoria that I was on her side of the shepard's pie issue, but wait. It's supposed to have a crust? What I've had is just mashed potato, creamed corn and ground meat all mixed together. Bleh.

Maybe I had the only shepherd's pie in England that was actually kind of pie-like with the flakey potato thing, I DON'T KNOW!

I need to pick your brains about battlestar galactica!

Do you by any chance have a list of all of the major storylines plots and themes that just got dumped after the Mutiny?

If not, can I email you the list I'm working on and see if you can brainstorm with me and add to it please to make sure I've got the important things?

Yay! I love having my brains picked about BSG!

I don't have a list like that, alas, but I would be happy to brainstorm with you.

To be honest with I felt that a lot of the stuff after the Mutiny arc wasn't so much dropped wholsale as resolved disappointingly or in a very cursory fashion. And some stuff that got introduced after the mutiny also got dropped at the end - in fact the most blatant example of this is probably the arming of Baltar's cult which was never mentioned again. And a lot of other stuff looked like it wasn't going to get dropped right until the very end when you suddenly realise there was no payoff - like Adama's drinking, Roslin's suicidalness, the human/cylon hybrid stuff, etc.

But yeah, send me what you've got and I'll let you know if I can think of anything you've missed out on?

How physically comfortable I felt in the same space as you was incredibly comforting.

Yes! I felt the same way upon meeting you! It was almost weird in that it didn't feel weird to just fall into a conversation as if we had done it a hundred times before even though we were seeing each other for the first time.

AND I MISS YOU TOO! I keep thinking about all the things we didn't get to talk about. And I may have had a small breakthrough in regards to a plot point giving me some trouble. Yes, I'm still thinking about the fic. :)

Yes! I mean, I've met other people from online before, and usually it's not as awkward as I fear and we get on well, etc., but it was really surprising to me how well I clicked with you (and others, but right now we're singing your praises!)

I keep thinking of the things we haven't had time to talk about tooooo. For instance I think I completely forgot to thank you for all those times you showed up and let me babble at you on Jabber/Meebo earlier this year and stuff. *hugs*

I APPROVE OF THINKING ABOUT THE FIC! And am eager to hear about this plot breakthrough - email me! And give me your paypal info while you're at it!

Oooooh the CLIP SHOW!!!

and now you have me trying to recall whether I thought you sounded massively british, unbritish, or looked like a teenager. did I? I didn't think so.... although I do know you don't say blueeeeeberries the posh way.

in any case, I am so glad you had such a fantastic trip! and ftr I told everyone, "I swear I never thought I'd want to vlarp so much but Becka is just so awesome I couldn't STOP talking to her" which um, should be noted since I was the distracted one >.>

that said, I am entirely confused as to how our vry srs romance was hilarious.

Nah, I think you were one of those rare few who didn't comment either way, though god knows what low res webcam did to my "youthful looks" :p Honestly the accent thing was mentioned by fewer of my LJ friends and mostly was my mom's friends being all, "OMG SHE SOUNDS SO BRITISH!" because, well, my Mom totally doesn't (which entertainingly threw Julie when she spoke to her briefly on the phone), even though they've known me my whole life, I guess to them, I'm the weird british-sounding kid their friend has so it's more of a subconscious throw for them.

The age thing is just weird though. I mean, okay, I don't really look older than I am. I get a bit of the "Huh, I don't think you look 26," think the UK too, though mostly I put it down to the fact that I dress casual and don't really bother with make-up unless I'm at an EVENT or something. And I'm sure that's a big part of it in the US too, but...in the UK it's occasional and they think I'm maybe 22. In the US...more than half the people I met (flist-friends and family-friends) ( ... )

AHAHA! Yes! They must think I'm young because I'm short! :p But really, people think you're older cus you're tall? Weirdness. For the record, I think we both look about how old we are, but I certainly wouldn't have guessed you to be much older than me. *hits weird age stuff*

You translate to real life very, very well. <#

Awww. Dude. That's just about the nicest thing anyone's said to me in a really long time, and quite frankly I wish I'd thought of it first so I could have said it to you.

Vegas isn't scary! *challenges your laptop to a duel*

It's terrifying! It crashes on my poor laptop. Which...I think means by default you win the duel... :(

And quite honestly, I was under the impression we left with me deciding you should write a fic about Kacey's mom dying in the New Caprica attacks and Kara getting stuck with her, and you apparently think we'd decided I should, but either way IT OUGHT TO HAPPEN.

Hee, maybe we'll have to co-author it. ;)

It was so great to meet you, and now I wish we'd done something a little more notable, but you know, Fitchburg. But it's always fabulous to find people who will talk with me about Kara and Sam for SEVEN HOURS. *blush* And I'm glad you and Kev got a kick out of the Baltar cult swag.

Oh and sometime you'll have to tell me where the $4-can store is, since I've apparently managed to live hear for almost a decade without finding it.

...When are you coming back? ;)

beccatoria October 16 2009, 17:09:05 UTC
Dude it was Fitchburg, what the hell else were we gonna do? Go to the train station that has ONLY ONE PLATFORM because it is literally the end of the line? ;) You were far more entertaining than any notable event. Cult swag is ALWAYS win and dude, it's fabulous to find anyone who'll put up with me talking about geeky crap for SEVEN HOURS let alone someone else who actually enjoys it. :p

I am sorry to report I have absolutely no idea where the $4 can store is beyond it's somewhere in central Cambridge, I think near Harvard Square. It's a quirky gift shop across the road from a traditional toy store and a cupcake shop and somewhat near a JP Licks? (OH GOD JP LICKS).

...When are you coming back? ;)

NOT SOON ENOUGH. *cries*

Hee, maybe we'll have to co-author it. ;)

Dude, projects! :D Though I did rant on at you endlessly about how much I suck at plot so...I dunno. Maybe collab is the way to go. Let me know if you have any thoughts on it - seriously, this could be fun!
