I was on the stairs at the gym the other day, heading down from the weights area to the main floor, when I met a small person coming up, nearly at the top. He was about 3 years old, and very intent on climbing the stairs. Right foot, left foot, pause, then attack the next one ( Read more... )

"Show me where you came from" was a smart question! At least the kid didn't answer it, "Nope."

I'd put the kid in a harness with a leash, but that's just me.

Are there frequently small children in the gym? It doesn't seem to be a very good place to bring one's children, given that when one is using the exercise machines one isn't in a position [NPI] to keep an eye on a child, much less go after the child if s/he decides to wander. Also, nothing to keep the child entertained, which is inhumane.

This a highly civilized lifestyle establishment (i.e. yuppie gym) with a child care center, family pool and children's programs. There is even separate family dressing room for adults with opposite sex children. That must prevent
-so- many awkward questions.

This fellow probably slipped away from his Dad while Dad had one leg out of his pants. No door on the single sex dressing rooms, just that zigzag set-up blocking line of sight. It would only take a moment for a determined child to get around the corner. And Mr. Nope was determined.

::smacks forehead:: Didn't occur to me it would be a family facility.

And if Mr. Nope's dad was in the midst of changing clothes, he couldn't immediately head after him. Good thing Mr. Nope ran into a grownup who knows how to talk to kids.
