Impatiently Waiting For X-Men: First Class

When I started reading the X-Books Magneto was Professor Xavier--Professor Michael Xavier. He was the one running the school, looking after the kids, and guiding the X-Men. Charles Xavier was off on the other side of the galaxy. I love Magneto, and Michael Fassbender seems so great as him. I may have to watch some Hex yet.

Have you seen the Jane Eyre he did? My Bronte class saw it together. I didn't think it was as good as it could've been, but I felt Michael and Mia Wasikowska did the best they could with what they were given. I've avoided Hex because of hearing it compared to Charmed which left me feeling badly burned, but having liked Michael as Edward and expecting I'll love him as Erik I don't think I can keep avoiding Hex.

Jane Eyre hasn't come out over here yet (Sept, I think)...

Oh! Sorry!! I saw it back in March and wasn't thinking about where you're living currently. I'm a huge fan of Rochester in Jane Eyre as well as Magneto so when I heard Michael was playing both I figured I'd find myself either loving him or hating him. I didn't expect much middle ground. Turned out Michael didn't completely sweep me off my feet in Jane Eyre, but he did leave me feeling like it wasn't his fault. I'm more hopeful with Mags.

I think there are sufficient differences that it's plenty different enough.

At this point I can only hope.

I'm a bit iffy on seeing the film, due to how little I enjoyed the 3 and Wolverine films as a whole, but I do like the Magneto casting. You'll have to tell me how it is.

Heh, I've never seen the Wolverine movie. I've always felt Hugh Jackman is too pretty and too tall to be Wolverine. Plus, I've heard Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool was the best part of the movie, and he's suppose to be getting his very own film eventually. I'm not expecting greatness from the film as a whole. There's already casting and storyline choices that make me giggle. I mean just as some examples--

1. Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw
2. January Jones as Emma Frost
3. Emma Frost being more than a telepath
4. The supposed "first class" having Havok, Banshee, and characters I don't even recognize in it. I'm guessing they're too new for me to recognize based on Emma's powers, but...
5. Sebastian Shaw in Magneto's helmet.

Yeah, I haven't got great expectations for the film as a whole. What I have high hopes for is Michael Fassbender's Erik/Magneto, and to a lesser extent James McAvoy's Xavier.

I thought Jackman was okay. I agree look-wise, but the acting he pulled off. I definitely agree with the Deadpool bit though. I'm really hoping he gets a film.

I see your point on the X-men film. I probably still won't see it in theatres, but on dvd: definitely.

Last I looked at IMDb it listed the release year for the Deadpool movie as 2014. Course it also said right now they're just working on the script.

I probably still won't see it in theatres, but on dvd: definitely.

Good plan. I wouldn't be looking forward to seeing it in the theater if I didn't want to see Michael Fassbender as Magneto on the scale of a movie theater screen. ;)
