We are in Olso one day, today, so we had a nice buffet brunch in the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, then walked to the National Gallery of Art and got our culture on. They have a selection basically from 1500 on, with a few sculptures from ancient Greece and ancient Rome ( Read more... )

How cool you are someplace cool! Yeah, Munch never did much for me, although I'm racking my brain to think of what the White Night is. The Dance of Life is pretty creepy, tho. Where else will you go on your trek?

Lots of Scandinavia and some Benelux. I should write a brief update, with some of the better pictures.

White Night, which was quite glowy and kind of evoked night and snow. It also felt as if he had the paint under control, which is not true in some of the other works we saw.

Ah, I do remember that one, and it is quite nice. And yes, there are some artists who benefit from getting control over the materials (and the muse), but i have a secret love for those who can't control the muse, but paint anyway. Van Gogh, Basqiuat, Don Van Vliet, Charles Burchfield.
