Space Shuttle: as of noon Friday the U.S. is no longer a space faring nation

At 11:30 I was at work, and my husband was pulling into the parking lot at Wegmans to do the weekly grocery shopping, when the last Space Shuttle blasted off. I did a play-by-play watching the last launch, describing, repeating the checks, announcements of speed and height. Yes, it's a bit melancholy. I really wanted to be an astronaut (the first woman!) when they started hacking at the moon. The aftermath of the end of that program kinda struck me like this one did your D.
