Did you see it/them, as there were three 90 minute movies?chhinnamastaFebruary 9 2011, 14:20:30 UTC
Yes! We enjoyed them. A second season is underway, apparently. Hooray!
I enjoyed the way technology was presented, and integrated with the narrative. Initially, I wasn't sure about Cumberbatch as Holmes, but I warmed to him in the end. OTOH, I thought Martin Freeman was a great Watson to Cumberbatch's Holmes. How is The Last Enemy? Should I watch that, too?

It is just terrible, if it's the thing I remember watching on PBS. Wait, I'll see if the final episode is up; that'll tell me if it's the same awful thing.... and it is.
Okay, the Last Enemy is a luddite melodrama about the RL problem of growing government surveillence. Starts out badly written and cardboard, ends with a supervillian twirling her mustaches. I have to admit, it kept me watching several years ago when it hit American tv. So, 5 out of 10 for PBS.
Also, thank you youtube for telling me who Cumberbatch is? You can find him playing Van Gogh, Stephen Hawking, Sherlock Holmes, a snotty rich young officer in To The Ends of the Earth, then some blankster like the guy in the Last Enemy. He's a blank? A character actor? I thought he was a leading man, because he looks blank to me, as leading men tend to do, but he looks like a blank, I think, because he is one. An unformed presence upon which to stamp a character.
A Cumberbatch!chhinnamastaFebruary 9 2011, 17:55:10 UTC
This is kind of random, but when I first glimpsed Cumberbatch, I wasn't paying enough attention and it scanned as Bandersnatch. Which reminds me of this gem at Prelinger on Dispute Resolution (the whole video has that old school charm, but the relevant discussion on Bandersnatches begins around 4:30).
It's a long lost visitor from the TMBG boards! You're talking about Benedict Cumberbatch so I just had to comment.
He played Hugh Laurie's son in a bizarre television show called Fortysomething. Since then, I have become convinced that he what it would look like if Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard ever had a child.
He also stars in a radio comedy called Cabin Pressure which should be listened to because 1) it's very silly and something I wish we had more of over here and 2) Roger Allam's voice is one of the most wonderful sounds in the world.
He's an interesting actor with a fantastic name but his fangirls are some of the scariest people on the Internet.

(Hitting your little brother and taking his toys is one of the joys of childhood. That's fun. If we are honest, and remember our childhoods.)
