Are the slugs they eat that gigantic, though? I work at a garden store and I've seen some pretty tiny slugs, lightning bug-sized or even a little smaller. At any rate this still surprises me that they're this freakily carnivorous; I thought lightning bugs lived on nectar and dew drops :(
After I did some online surfing, I found a photo of a larval firefly munching on a tiny slug. Disturbing. There were also some who claimed that adult fireflies do not eat at all.
