I admit I'm still fairly new to all this livejournal stuff, but I have a question ( Read more... )

You do make a good point there. :)
I think it's just so fans know who's gone to the effort of subbing videos, that's why subbers put their names on them. And since they're not meant to be streamed or sold, the subbers assume their names will only be seen by the people that download their work.
Not only that but it stops random people from saying they subbed it; they took the time out of their lives to go through the whole subbing process, etc.

Lol if I open a community, I think I'd like it to be called "arashinipple-t-shirts"! XD

I've noticed websites that sell Jdramas & Kdramas are these illegal too? You would think they would be.

And go for it, I would join a lj called arashinipple-t-shirts.

Who'd a thunk that I'd be a fangirl at my age, and for a Japanese Boy (althought they are men now) band.

Pretty much :P Just selling of any drama, with or without subs, is illegal. Personally, I think selling is worse than subbing since those people are actually gaining money for something they don't have licenses to. :P

I became a fangirl at a young age too...we just get roped in so quickly!

I think they put their names on it so their effort is recognized and in case others decide to sell it they can see that their work (that is meant to be for free from fans for fans) is not a way for others to earn money.

The same happens with other things like scans or artwork. I suppose (and in my case it's that) people don't like that other take credit for things they have taken the time to do.

The ones in the bad here are the ones that earn money or take credit for things that aren't their work. All are not legal but if people didn't take advantage of it, probably nobody would feel the need to be credited or check that their effort isn't for somebody else's gain... :S ;)

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

And I just wanted to say I started the 2 chapters of your Jun & Sho fic and I really liked it and hope to read more soon. It's a very intriguing beginning.

I find your LJ because I liked your comment in one of subbers' rants LOL XD
I also had the same question when I first joined this fandom (thank God I had an LJ account for almost a decade already as a personal blog so I got it easy to join 'elite' communities and so on). . I think that the videos are not theirs to begin with but they claim it as theirs (it is very different tho with artwork and such). I also realize that translating is such a hard job to do, but softsubs would be too easy for other people to claim their work.

Regardless immaturity that I find every now and then in the fandom (and it is not entirely a bad thing, they're just being young and carefree), I actually joined a subbing community as a subber myself to figure this out.
This may not appear nice to people, but what i interpret from the situation is a very simple human nature.
And that is existence. The need to be appreciated by others. It just has forms as comments in the virtual world.

I've been on the internet since 1997, I've been in more than one fandom and no matter where you or what fandom you are in there will always be immaturity and there will always be "minions" or people who follow the immature no matter what ( ... )
