I didn't even think this film was supposed to be out for ages yet!? Maybe it won't be out over here for a while. Hm the trailers not what I expected at all - I thought it was going to be more traditional than that - they were selling it as mixing Rococo art style with CGI at first. Still it looks like it's going to be a laugh I'm sure I'll end up going to see it when it comes out.
Yeah, I remember the art style being talked about in those terms-- as more of a watercolor approach-- but I think that flourish got scrapped along with the 'Rapunzel' title because it might have made little boys catch 'The Gay' or whatever :)
In terms of the actual design though, and it terms of the overall feel? I mean it's not "Sleeping Beauty"-traditional, but it's probably their most familiarly 'Disney'-Disney movie in ages. I haven't really seen the newest trailers so I dunno if they're less... deceptive about its actual tone/protagonist/approach X)
Posting a review like this when said movie is not out in the UK until January is just cruel.
But I definitely agree about the fact that this generation has some really good role models. I'd also add, in the non-Disney section, Elasigirl and Violet Parr from The Incredibles, and Coraline, who was just awesome.
Oh if we're including NON-Disney heroines, the list fucking STRETCHES XD I just think it's especially nice considering A) 9/10 odds that most children's seminal developmental experiences are going to be centered around Disney and B) that it's really sending a more positive message about being a 'princess' than what that usually implies (i.e. helpless, dependent, lacking any real power/personality).
