I suppose this is a pretty good excuse for not doing homework this afternoon...

And it started off as such a nice day too! Got some laundry done, watched the season finale of Downton Abbey (with a grin on my face for at least ten minutes straight), and I even got some research done!

In fact, I was feeling so well-rested and productive that I decided to bike through the crisp late fall air along the canal to school early so I ( Read more... )

don't do as i do, live life to the fullest, cycling about town

I hate to sound ageist, but senior citizens need to re-take the driving test every year. There was a case recently of a 99-year-old man in LA legally driving who backed over a kindergarten class or something.

I hope you are OK. That's scary! Seattle is pretty bike-friendly, but people still get killed every year.

Yeah, it was really scary, especially because I feel I could have literally done almost nothing differently to stop it, either at the time or to prevent it from happening again. You can do almost everything right as a cyclist and still be in danger.

I got checked out at the university's medi-center today, and I seem fine: bruised knee, cut finger... I was mostly shaken up yesterday. I'm actually sitting at university right now, waiting for the free bike tuneup thing to start. :)

It definitely was. But no rest for the wicked: now I have to buckle down and work twice as hard to make up for the homework I missed. :(

Ack! I feel for you... My bike commute crosses a very busy, major street, then a bunch of teeny residential streets. I don't know which part is more hair-raising, actually.

I'm glad you're okay (plus with cool bruises you can show off to people... at least that's what I always do), and I hope you get alla that homework done! :D

Thanks for your kind words. :) I'm actually feeling it even more on the SECOND day, and my bruise is more spectacular, of course - deep purple - but I'm not going to let it get me down.

Man, I hate it when motorists don't even look where they're going.

I'm sorry you were hit, but very, very glad you didn't get more seriously hurt. Being old is no excuse not to look where you're going, particularly if you're driving something that by can and very often does cause death.

Thanks for your internet hug. :) I appreciate it. I am feeling much better, but I was feeling a bit down too because I don't know many people around here very well yet, so I didn't feel like I really had many people to turn to. I mean, when I went to school a friend did make me some tea, which always helps, but I really missed my mother that day.
