So...I need to find some good metal bands to listen to. I'm really into Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend, but I want to expand my interests a bit. I've tried searching for other metal bands, but I can't seem to find any that really appeal to me ( Read more... )

Have you heard the album "The Human Equation" by Ayreon? It's a two-disc occasionally heavy prog-rock concept album put out by a Danish musician who gets a shitload of talented musicians from all over the world on board with whatever he does. The album has about ten different vocalists involved, including Devin Townsend, Mikael Akerfeldt (from Opeth), and James LaBrie (from Dream Theater). There's several female vocalists involved too, including one from Mexico named Marcela Bovio, who has an awesome voice.

The basic premise of the album is that there's a guy in a coma, and his wife and best friend are in the hospital with him, but don't know what happened. The guy himself (vocals by James LaBrie) doesn't know what happened, either, and has to confront all kinds of inner demons in order to get to the bottom of things and come out of his coma. All the rest of the 'characters' are personifications of various emotions or faculties: Devin Townsend is the voice of Rage, Mikael Akerfeldt is Fear, etc.

Hey
I recently discovered this lovely lovely little thing called 'Pandora'. I was having the same issue, with a different genre, and this worked quite nicely. It's at http://www.pandora.com/ .
MIght I also suggest the bands 'and one'or 'within temptation'? I mean, they are more ambientish if i am remembering correctly..
best of luck :)

I think I like Agalloch. Heard the song on your MySpace, checked out their songs on their page and I'm impressed. I'll have to pick up an album sometime (don't do much downloading... or any).
