harsh detergents in most cleansers (especially those for oily or acne prone skin) can make oil production worse by stripping the pores of natural sebum. oil cleansing can help by removing dirt/makeup/etc. but not stripping natural oils from the skin. Some oily people don't like this method because they don't feel "clean". It might not work for everyone but there are many people who have great success using it.

What about vitamin E oil? I've never heard of using fish oil, that plus tea tree sounds like it would smell terrible.

If you use olive oil, get extra virgin. I hear it works better. I've used just Vitamin E on my face before and my face is oily, it worked out pretty well. Many try vitamin E + Tea tree + E.V.O.O.?

If you can afford it, go to the drugstore and grab some castor oil from Walgreens or the like (should be under 5 dollars for a good size bottle). Do a 3:1 ratio of castor oil to EVOO and add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to it. The castor oil helps to dissolve skins sebum and the EVOO helps to moisturize and calm inflammation from acne, the tea tree oil helps to sanitize and kill bacteria.

Fish oil on the face sounds.. yucky.
Found some links for you about inexpensive DIY face cleansers.
This one recommends yogurt masks for oily skin.
Here you can find ones using oil blends.
Hope this helps.

I wouldn't use the fish oil...it probably smells REALLY bad (have you ever taken fish oil supplements, and then your burps smell like fish afterwards? Like that...).
