Hey guys. I went to Bath and Body Works a week ago, and bought 3 bottles of Honeysuckle shower gel, one bottle of Honeysuckle body splash, and four bottles of Eucalyptus Spearmint hand soap. Upon looking at my receipt, I see that I was charged for 5 Honeysuckle products. It's only $4, but it still irritates me. I highly doubt there's any way I' ( Read more... )

since i've worked in customer service for a long time now my best piece of advice is this- go back in, and tell them what happened.
even if a person is scamming a place, most stores mark a product up 300% from the whole sale price. so even if it was on sale, they're still making a profit.

*so* most stores will try and refund you and not give you too much hassel just because it's easier for them in the long run, and they're still making money.

hope i explained that right.

in short- go back and get your money. if they give you crap, give 'em crap right back ;)

*agreed* Also, it's good practise for you to check your receipt immediately after receiving it ...that way the checkout person will also remember what you have just bought...

I'd call them up first. Where I work, when people call ahead, they're far more likely to have their money returned than if they just rocked up and asked for it.

I work in retail and when people come in & tell us this they usualy get their money back. I usually call my manager and she takes care of it b/c i dont want to just hand over money unless it is my mistake (as in im the one who rang it up). Go back to that same store tell them what happened....for good customer service reasons they should give u your money back.. unless it sounds extremely fishy... ie. it's been a month or weeks since you purchased, it was a different location, or uve done the same thing before...it happens all the time no big deal.

I worked as an asst. manager in retail and had to deal with this a lot. The best thing to do would be to ask to talk to a manager and explain to them what happened. Unless you come in the store with an attitude, it shouldn't be a problem to refund your money. Cashiers make mistakes without anyone realizing it at the time, and it really isn't a big deal.

Plus, depending on who sold you the items, they might actually remember you and what you purchased. Of course, the sooner you go in, the better your chances are of this. I had two people bring back some bindings (it was a sporting goods store) that had broke on them that they had bought two weeks earlier and didn't have a receipt for. But, I remembered them because they had asked me for help and were extremely friendly. I remembered how they paid, so their return went a lot smoother even though they didn't have a receipt. Trust me, most sales people remember their really nice and really mean customers.

I was going to say this as well. They might remember, and the receipt should have the associate's number on it so they might be able to ask her about it. Plus, they should me made aware of their mistake anyway so they don't make it again.
