Mascara wand re-use?

Hi beauties!

I read somewhere a long time ago that you can use up your favorite expensive mascara, and re-use the wand in a new tube of something cheaper (after cleaning the wand properly). From what I remember, the product formula itself doesn't matter as much as the wand design.

Anyone else heard of this?

No, but I've used a cleaned mascara wand as a brow brush or a brush to declump a mascara application.

Yup, they say the shorter the wand, the better the result. I don't know if it's true though. Haven't tried it myself.. Although now i just might!

I used to keep brushes from old mascaras and use different ones if I wanted natural effect, length, volume, etc.
You still want to have decent mascara itself though, as cheaper ones tend to smudge, crumble/flake, and glue your eyelashes together.

Yep, it really is the wand more than the formula and, yep, I've done this. I use waterproof mascara, so I washed it in soap and water and soaked it in alcohol and rinsed it very thoroughly and it was fine.

The only problem you might encounter is that a lot of wands won't fit into other tubes, or that's what I've found, but there's a Rimmel mascara that works with almost every one. I don't remember what it's called, but it came in a blue tube....?

I horde old wands, even if I didn't like them the first time. I've got one that is on its third tube, and have a bunch of clean ones just laying around to separate lashes if I've applied too much, or to apply aloe gel to my brows or any other such styling needs.
