Clarisonic Use for Oily, Sensitive Skin

Mar 27, 2012 21:18

Hi beauties! So I've been doing research literally for months on the Clarisonic, and finally, I bit the bullet and ordered the Mia today. It should be arriving in a couple of days, and I'm super excited about it. My question for you guys has more to do with the cleanser than the Clarisonic itself. I have really oily, somewhat sensitive skin. I ( Read more... )

I have oily skin and I have been loving Origins Checks and Balances. I am just not sold on my moisturizer. Sometimes it's nice sometimes not.
I find that if i exfoliate too hard with the Clarisonic, my skin gets mega oily :(

Thanks! I've heard lots of good stuff about the Origins Checks and Balances cleanser. If my current Cetaphil cleanser doesn't seem to do the trick in conjunction with the Clarisonic, I will definitely check it out. I'm currently using the old-school Olay daily moisturizer, which seems to be working okay, but to be honest, I think the best moisturizer that I've used has been Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I don't know why I switched from using that lol. I think I may go back to it when I've finished the Olay one.

Good to know that too much exfoliation will make my skin oilier. Ugh. Oily skin is the bane of my existence. lol

Thats so weird that you mention the Clinique! I use the lotion. Have you ever tried the lotion? I like it but I feel like its easy to overdo and then my skin is made oily. Twice now (I've been using it just under a month) I have gotten it exactly right and didnt use too much and my skin wasn't as oily.
Do you think the gel works better? Does it make you more or less oily?

I think I tried a sample of the lotion back in the day, but never really fell in love with it. I'm actually kind of bad with skincare products in that I'm somewhat fickle. I did find, though, that the gel helped me to control oil much better than I remember the lotion did. At first, I found the consistency of the gel to be kind of weird, somewhat watery, but it did moisturize my skin well and didn't make my skin look greasy. Maybe you could get a sample from a Clinique counter. To be honest, if you do buy the gel and then find you don't like it, you can probably return it to the counter that you got it from. I recently bought a foundation from a Clinique counter in Macy's and after a few days of use, found that it wasn't right for me (it was wayyyyy too dewy), and I was able to return it (with receipt) to the counter that I bought it from with no problems. I would say that if you have oily skin, give it a shot. :)

Actually I also have oily, sensitive (and acne-prone) skin and I use the Cetaphil face wash you're talking about. I've been using the Mia for about 14 months. Before the Clarisonic, the face wash alone was just okay. It didn't completely clear my skin or clean my pores out. But with the Mia, that completely changed. My skin is so smooth and clear now. And wow my skin makeup goes on so smoothly! :D

I definitely suggest you at least try out the Mia with your currentl Cetaphil cleanser. At least see if the Mia makes a difference. If not, you didn't lose any money because you used a product you already have. Then you can go in search of a face wash that will work with your skin. :)

Oh, that's good to know! I was going to try the Cetaphil cleanser out with the Clarisonic anyway, since I already have it, but I'm really glad to hear that you found it to work better with the Mia than when you were using the cleanser alone. I hope that's the case for me, too! Thanks! :)

As a sidenote, since you seem to have a similar skin type to mine, did you find that when you first started using the Clarisonic, that your skin started to "purge" as some people have experienced?

Yea, I remember the purge phase. It lasted about 2-3 weeks. I vividly remember my skin peeled a little bit, but mostly it just broke out (especially along my jawline and cheeks where I'm most acne prone). I figured that the Mia was just scrubbing my pores clean and purging all the bacteria from underneath my skin. (My skin purges all the time whenever I switch to a new skin product, so I'm accustomed to the whole process.) But after the 'purge phase,' omg my skin was so heavenly clear! It was completely worth it! Like seriously, my cheeks haven't FELT smooth to the touch since I was in middle school and had my first pimple (I'm 27 now). So if you purge, it's totally normal and just keep it up. Two weeks of breaking out is TOTALLY WORTH IT for clear skin for the rest of your life! XD

Hope that all helps and it works out for ya!

My skin is very sensitive, it's oily in my T-zone but can also get pretty dry. I use the Clairsonic once every 2-3 days or whenever I'm extra sweaty or dirty, otherwise my nose skin gets irritated.

Cetaphil's cleanser was crud for my skin. I liked the one that came with the Mia, then when I ran out I tried like half of everything at my local Sephora (pretty sure their skincare area is staffed by a saint) and landed on FAB's facial cleanser (I used it at night). I've stuck with it since, it's gotten me through summers and winters in like 4 cities and 3 different weather zones.
& in the morning I rinse with water and use Olay's Regenerist or Total Effects facial moisturizers (without sunscreen, those ingredients mess with my skin in general).

Cool, thank you! If my Cetaphil continues to be sub-par, I may check this out. :)

although i don't use that clarisonic thing i use their non foaming cleansers. i have rosacea and it's the only face wash that is gentle enough to not turn my peach skin all red. i would highly reccomend it
